I just came to this IMDB page for Free Willy today for the first time, and saw that it's voting/rating/stars thing was only like, 5.7.

Why do people hate this movie so much? I really don't see why anyone could have a problem with it. It is just a family movie that is meant to be sweet. So what's the big idea? Why would anyone criticize it so much?

In my opinion, it is one of the best family movies out there. It teaches a good lesson that many children do not learn from the movies that come out these days. When I have kids, they will be sure to see Free Willy.

I just expected people to have the same respect for this movie as I do. But 5.7? I just don't get it...I really don't...it really makes me sad.

I agree; this is a great family movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, family movies never do too well on this site, unless they're Pixar movies, it seems. Also, the movie was extremely popular when it came out, and that is enough to make some of the more insecure people hate it. I have to admit, the movie has some clichés, but that's not a big deal...not enough to get the sort of rating it has, anyway. I'd say it should have a 7.2-7.6 rating, but that's just me.

I agree it is a splendid Family movie it's one of my Fave Childhood movies and it is alot better then the Crap so called family movies that are playing to day.

I think it's perhaps because I alot of people who are against whales being captured for entertainment purposes vote against it.I am against that too but I haven't given it a bad rating or anything. Otherwise,I don't understand it either, this was on of my childhood movies.

It's fallen to 5.1 by now. Some people just don't appreciate good movies.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

Because it sucks and it makes me hungry for seafood.

At least Mr. Blonde is in it.

Because votes are cast mainly by teenagers. Teens don't like children movie, they wanna stray away from childhood, not back to it like adults do.

Willy is actually a Dolphin not a whale. Orca's are the largest members of the dolphin family.

Because whales are meant for food, not as pets. Whales are in the same league of animals as cows, sheep, chicken and so forth. The pet-like impression of them, that this movie wants to give us, is somewhat ridiculous.

It would be the same if the movie was about a boy and a cow.

Check your facts. Whales and dolphins are some of the most intelligent predators out there. That's comparable to a movie about a boy and his dog/wolf. You don't see people teaching cows to perform tricks. And I don't know where you're from, but most people don't eat whale or dolphin.

7 years later, and it's 6.0 now, but still should be higher lol.
