Why was Abby McDeere, even before the big reveal, wasn't grateful with Mitch for becoming richer?

Even before it was revealed the firm was corrupt and whatnot, why wasn't Abby McDeere all too happy and thrilled with Mitch for becoming richer?

Saying stuff like "Been in one limo been in them all", "its not for me and not for you and you know it" etc, don't a lot of people dream of becoming richer?

She knew it could mean trouble, that's why. Having money can lead to a lot of problems for people that don't know how to handle it. Just think. Bigger house, nicer cars, boats, vacations, etc = taxes!

reply

And what's perhaps not too bizarre, she turned out to be RIGHT as well, her intuition here WORKED.

reply

Too much work as measured by time and effort leaves them little juju for the relationship.

reply

1 she is born rich
2 she does not care for the rich life and is not impressed by it
3 she prefers a life together and poorer to him being gone from down till late evening to make some money

reply

"1 she is born rich"
But in this film, there was no real indication that her character actually WAS born rich.

Besides, is the belief that money buys happiness and that rich people at least CAN be happy by mere virtue of being rich and in and of itself, really incorrect, wrong and is basically a "myth"?

Then again, in Russia, we have a saying - "Rich people also cry". And they don't JUST mean if something de-facto terrible and tragic happens in their lives like loss of a family member etc.

reply

Mitch specifically tells her how it is easy for somebody born rich like HER to think that poverty is just a fly you can swat away.

Btw the limo line was just a joke she said tongue in cheek.

reply

She was joking, but presumably there was some degree of truth to what she said, since she was clearly born and raised rich.

reply

She was born rich.

There's a line of dialogue where Mitch says to Abby about his new job/lifestyle, "OK, I'm more impressed than
you are - you grew up with it."

As for your other question, there was a study done that suggested that one's happiness increases with one's level of wealth *up until a point* and then it plateaus. Still, I'm inclined to feel that it's much easier to be happy if you're rich than if you're poor.
