Why this show failed

No Belding in the main cast. Nuff said. SBTB is NOTHING without BELDING.

The show failed because Lisa wasent in it and Belding wasent in it the tricks were the same with Kelly and Zack they could have left kelly out and brought bak Lisa her and Screech relationship was funny and i love the high skool ones with Lisa and Belding but I hate the colleges one and with a reason lol

~*Justin you said your bringing sexy back but see I never left~*

I don't agree with anyone who said that Kelly's the reason the show failed. If she hadn't been in it the show wouldn't have been half as good. I for one hated the Pilot, I found it rather odd, misplaced and boring, not sure whether it was the scriptwriting or that girl before Kelly who didn't fit in with the gang or Zack trying to adjust to College, but didn't like it. The second ep however brightened up the show, when Kelly was first shown and Screech welcomed her I got that feel of it being SBTB again, but having moved to the next level. There was that old nice familiarity there. And you just knew the flame would still be there with her and Zack, which was great because they were always right together. No other girl was destined for Zack but her, so bringing back Kelly was the best thing to do in my opinion. I didn't mind Alex or Leslie, they were new and refreshing and had good chemistry with the old SBTB cast, and it was right to have new main leads with the gang maturing and everything. But it was always going to be strange not having Lisa there to reject Screech who was always fully in love with her, or Jessie around to call Slater a macho pig all the time. And Mr Belding was always a classic character. But I did like Mike. He wasn't as good but he was OK for College. I don't think people gave this show enough of a chance to be honest. I think there was potential there for a lot more to happen after the wedding in vegas, which was probably only brought forward to round up the SBTB saga with it being renewed for that awful New Class. I would've like to have seen how Zack and Kelly dealt with marriage, and the old gang coming to visit them

Chandler: on second thoughts, gum would be perfection. (thinks) Gum would be PERFECTION??

I always said that for the college years, Slater probably shouldn't have been there and the same with Kelly. They should have had it be Lisa, Leslie, and that chick Danielle from the first episodes and the female roomates & Zack/Screech as the male roomates of the dorm. They could have had Kelly/Jesie/Slater visit from time to time. The ycould have hooked Zack up with Leslie for a while then let them go their seperate ways and remain friends then had Zack try a long distance thing with Kelly, then hooked Zack up with Lisa after his long distance thing didn't work. It failed because it was too unrealistic. Also being that it was in prime time, a later time than the original seires, they could have spiced up the themes just a little bit.

If they kept it on Saturday mornings, it would have lasted for 4 years. But they basically took a kiddie show and put it on primetime. Hence, it was never gonna work.

watching it now. At 7am Zack and Kelly got married and then since 8am it has been the college years. Kelly arrives to campus episode and the young professor one.

What if this show took it to another level and had the college toga party. I know they did it in high school but this would have been a nice remake of it. Also they could have brought some serious issues while still making it a comedy. The high school years brought up issues like drugs, dringing and driving, theft, i gotta mention the caffeine pills cause that was by far the funniest episode:"Im SO Im SO Im So Scared" -Jessie "Showgirl" Spano.

The college years could have mentioned raves, date rape,std's,etc...

And for the better comedy they could have had drinking games, power hour, a stoner roomate or at least a down the hall student similar to a Newman.

I still love the show how it was and must thank Peter Engel and co for some great entertainment over the years.

*watching it now to* :D

And I like tha show...

Shame they cancelled it.

It was a highly pre-teen verison of what college is like, does anything these guys went through remind you of college?? Did you ever hang out with your RA??

Now Mike as a stoner crappy RA that Zack and the gang had to constantly cover for in fear he would be replaced w/ a good RA that would actually stop Zacks illegal scheems...would of been cool cause he could of actualy showed them glimpses of real college life and real life away from the parents....and they choose to reject his ways because his life is such a mess.

This way old fans would be happy cause the Saved By the Bell gang stays clean and sober and everyone else would be happy because it would sem like a semi realistic college

I was a fan of the original SBTB but it had run it'd couse & never really changed. I remeber being phyced for The College Years cause it might be more mature but no same old stuff.

It failed because they thought they could just do the show the exact same way and still be a hit. They didn't upgrade it at all for prime time and their was a market for these types of shows(Fresh Prince, Blossom, Full House, TGIF). 90210 was an older audience, Saved by the Bell wouldn't have been able to do a show like that.

While 7.3 million was probably up from the Saturday Morning numbers it core audience was being taken by Full House, they never stood a chance. If they would of aired it after Blossom (think Must See TV for teens or NBC version of TGIF) and updated the show for 14-24 yr old's and not the tween Saturday morning demo I think we would be looking at 4 seasons of the College Years.

I actually enjoyed this show. But I think it had to do with the fact that I was a high school senior when this show aired. So it got me hyped for college.

Many of the reasons stated here are probably true. I would also like to point out that the original Saved By the Bell was shown on Saturday mornings, ratings need not be too high to be successful during that time slot. Besides it (the original show) did well during that slot because during the late 80s nothing on Saturday mornings were really geared towards the teen population. That changed with Saved By the Bell. The success from the show lead to other live action shows and let to a certain extent the downfall to Saturday morning cartoons shown on the Big Three Networks.

Now when you move to primetime, you need bigger audience numbers. Unfortunately for Saved by the Bell: College, a lot of the original fan base also grew up, adults watched primetime and were not keen on watching a bunch of 20 somethings in college. Plus Saved by the New Class: inferior in quality than the original, satisified the new generation of teens in the mornings along with new real life action shows.

The show failed because of 3 reasons:

1. Moved to primetime. Not a good idea for this type of show. Should have stayed where it was at and it would have more than likely lasted more seasons.

2. No Lisa. And no Jesse. Leslie and Alex were good. But the others were better. Much better.

3. The show wasn't really funny until a good 6-7 episodes into the season. It was quite boring at first. But once it found its footing, it was freaking hilarious. Too bad a lot of primetime audiences don't have that kind of patience.
