In most topics, I would see someone say that "The first season of BMW is not that good." I really don't understand why because for me, it was the funniest season because the lines were absolutely funny. The fact that kids were saying those lines made it more funny. Young Morgan made me laugh a lot too. Can someone please enlighten me why most of you don't like the first season?
I really like it. It's different from the later seasons but it's not bad, just different. And the characters weren't Flanderized yet, which is a big plus.

Just started the series yesterday & I've just finished Season 1.
I've seen a handful of episode from the future seasons, but I appreciate this one. Like someone said, this is the "innocence" of Cory Matthews, when he was 11-12.
Definitely would go back & watch this Season again sometime in the future. maybe..
I didn't realize people had a beef with the first season. That's probably my favorite. Cory was a completely different character in season 1. He was athletic, not arrogant or overly confident but not the neurotic tool that he could be at times in later seasons. Almost handicapped in later seasons. For some reason they decided to completely get rid of that. Yes, Shawn was still the "cooler" one but it all made more sense and was just perfect. BMW eventually did what every show in the 90's did, they had one character that just had to be cartoonish. It was Shawn for a while, then it was Eric but there were plenty of episodes when it was Cory. Some of the best lessons of the show came in season 1. Plus I was so excited that they were the same age as me in season 1. They were originally the class of 2000, they changed it in season 2 to fit the age of the actors better. Season 1 was so much more realistic. I also preferred original Morgan.
I loved season 1. I don't get the hate, either. It was good, especially for it being an opening season to a new series. Many shows' first seasons are generally worse than the other seasons, because they're still gaining their footing and working things out. The B Team of Life is actually one of my favorite episodes of the series.
I like season 1, but I think my favorite seasons are 3, 4, and 6. One of my favorite season 1 episodes, and in my top 10, would have to be "The Fugitive." I never get tired of seeing that episode. The Christmas one was also pretty good with Morgan thinking she killed Santa Claus.
I loved the first season. It's still my favorite. It seemed the most authentic about what it was like during that time and that age. It has the feel of The Wonder Years. Lots of surprising moments of insight. But the show got more surreal and slapstick as it progressed. Still a good show, but very different tone.
I don't think it's hated at all, I think BMW is typically just associated with the over the top humor that dominated the later seasons, opposed to the grounded seriousness of the early seasons, which I personally prefer much more. If you watch Season 1, then switch to Season 7, you're watching two entirely different shows at that point.
Seasons 5-7 are still great, but 1-4 are on a whole other level. 5-7 DO reach the great heights of 1-4 though, just not as consistent.
Ron *beep* Swanson is the greatest thing that ever happened to television.
I like the first season. At least in the first season Eric wasn't that much of an airhead and some sense. Little Morgan was so cute I think her name was Lilly in real life.
I like the first season and I like Minkus. Minkus was a nerd no doubt, he was weird, but he did one thing that nerds in modern sitcoms don't ever do, he stood up for himself. He was nerdy, uncool, but when 'cool kids' make fun of him, he made equally hurtful remarks regarding their lack of intelligence.
I also like season 1 Eric, less of an air head like previous posts mentioned. Alan and Amy were bit more sarcastic to the kids. And Feeney... well, well done for Feeney, he stayed the same all through 7 seasons.
I think BMW was perfect the way they started out and the way they ended. Even though it was said BMW was still hitting its peak at season 7, they needed to end it because I stopped finding it as interesting as earlier seasons. They were literally finding stuff to write about and weren't doing too well at that point. All in all though, even in the most ridiculous episodes like "pop quiz", there's still a moral lesson in it and I'm glad it did. No fillers or anything IMO, it's great.
When Boy Meets World first premiered between Family Matters and Step by Step, it was like the 'kid' show in the TGIF lineup as Urkel and the Step by Step kids were getting older. I thought it was nice at first but kind of boring. I honestly thought I was too old for BMW when it first premiered and I was 13. Then all of a sudden, Cory is going through relationship issues like Young and the Restless!
I think Feeny was meaner (not to say he was mean) and didn't like Cory as much in season one. Also, he didn't have glasses. His glasses are the source of all his powers :p
