should white people apologise for slavery

My initial response is no. Men and women should be accountable for their own actions not that of their forefathers. Im not trivialising what my ancestors or other black peoples ancestors went through but where does it stop. However as a country places like England and America should apoligise if they are to celebrate the great things they did they should also repent for their horrific deeds. What are you guys thoughts on this black or white

EVERY culture on this planet since the dawn of mankind practiced this shameful system.

Still sadly practiced today.

Answer: No (probably) because of personal culpability but a sincere embrace and expression of sympathy for black slavery and its FAR REACHING consequences and the continuing abutment of racial inequality against racial equality in the U.S. would be welcome.

This is a very stupid topic. Obviously White people shouldn't apologize for slavery since all of our ancestors were slaves at one time. Not to mention that we aren't our ancestors. My Ancestors were on the Union Army and helped put an end to Slavery. Should I apologize for my Ancestors being on the positive side of History?

reply

I would think only the white people who owned slaves.

reply

It's not so much apologizing...it seems as if White people act like it never happened.

We know it happened and that was a ugly time in history but a lot of different groups have been abused or slaves to other people. Black people can't keep using this as a free pass to break the law and rewarding bad behavior. My answer to the OP would be NO
Why should I feel guilty?

I don't think you should feel guilty. What I value from anyone is the awareness of how yesterday's improprieties might be impacting the present. Case-in-point:

I believe that modern man (of all races) suffers from what we inherited (both pragmatic and psychologically) from our forbearers and whether or not we are strong enough to acknowledge its influence over us today.

I'd sure like an apology from my ancestors. Just imagine how great the USA would be had we not brought back all those slaves. I'm sure they would be ashamed of themselves if they could see all the trouble it led to.
