Why didn't Denzel won an oscar for this?

Why didn't this movie even didn't receive an oscar?

The Academy is a joke. This movie is a masterpiece and very close to the book, most movies don't do that alot anymore. And nowadays it's just art and camera work behind the set something that makes your eyes go to sleep. Very Underrated and under appriciated.

And Denzel should've won the oscar for this film, one of the most brilliant performance's i've ever seen.

Denzel really should have won best actor there's no question. His performance was an acting class.

I don't remember Denzel every even getting a nomination until he played a bad guy. I remember Russell crowe always getting it and the win until apparently Russell did something the academy didn't like that year. (I should look it up to remember what that was) but anyway that happened and magically Denzel won for training day.

This is all just what I THINK I recall. I was also really young so I could be wrong and I don't mind anyone pointing out if I was. Knowledge is power lol

reply

Because the Academy felt it was time they gave one to Al Pacino.

I have an idea, OP. 

Controversial (both then and now to a certain extent) topics were explored in-depth in this movie. Racism, violence, self-empowerment...Spike Lee is a genius who crafted layer after layer of social commentary through a superbly made biography of a great leader.

Denzel instead won his Oscar for his performance of a crooked cop, instead for his performance as one of the greatest political and social advocates of the 20th century... It makes you wonder.

He had previously won a best supporting for his role in Glory. However, I agree that he should have won it for this film.

The Academy has some other agenda that doesn't include honest votes or real winners.

Oh yeah, you can keep the affirmative token.

reply

A good movie and I agree; Denzel's performance was Oscar worthy.

reply

we all know why

reply

Yes, he should have won. Al Pacino should have won for many other past ones.

reply

Al Pacino deserved to win for Scent of a Woman. He was wonderful in the film.
