Better than WofK ?
I would say so, in every way, but it seems like most people disagree. What about you ?

It was definitely a considerable improvement over V, beyond that I'm not too sure. II and IV I definitely think are considerably better, and III is certainly more fun. The first film has more obviously flaws, and it is very dated, but I find it to be both more admirable and more likable. Heck, I'd even say I like the first two Next Generation films more than this; whatever their flaws, they're a lot more cinematic. I do much prefer this to the bland later Next Generation films, and the Abrams films; while I think this one was aimed a little too much at the convention set, I personally feel the Abrams films leave behind much of what made Star Trek unique.
I should admit that as a kid I really, really liked the fifth film, although I really couldn't tell you why!
No. Pretty decent movie, but it's no WoK.
shareUnfortunately, Undiscovered Country suffers from ST:Next Generation syndrome - in that much of what alien cultures do somehow reflect Earth culture. Examples being a very 20th century earth court system, with gavels, lawyers and even objections/sustains, etc. I expected something a bit more creative.
And while TOS wasn't immune to this - Next Generation (and beyond) made a habit of every overusing these types of themes.
Unfortunately, too much of this, along with a whodunnit plot, made it into this movie, whereas WofK stays more true to an interesting scifi storyline that fits well into the ST universe and doesn't overuse 20th century earth references. And considering Kahn was from the 20th century, his literary references make much more sense than does a Klingon - no matter how it's explained.
-yeh that's an interesting point - also TWOK (and TMP/TSFS) feel quite 'alien' in the universe they present and as a result more cinematic..
also TWOK has no bumpy headed aliens. just highly advanced astronauts vs highly advanced genetically engineered supermen from centuries ago. so in a way its its a more plausible SF film in terms of imagining the future (ok there maybe Klingon type aliens with similar cultures to ours out there, but its probably more likely theres alien things we cant begin to imagine - like Ceti Eels and facehuggers/xenomorphs, while we as a species continue to fight each other over our differences and the need to rule (only instead of race it could be genetically created races like Khan)
Wrath of Kahn had a conservative and a kind of Christian subtext to it that I think appealed to a lot of traditional sci-fi fans. I thought it was decent drama, but wondered why some of the staging of the battles manifested on the screen the way it did. And to be honest, it didn't feel much like classic Trek, though perhaps a better presentation of an updated Star Trek than the motion picture offered.
STVI is a fuller movie with more humor and some drama that keeps it a traditional ST episode with feature film production values. It's not really a good fully vetted plot and story, but is a but more adventure oriented, though a little less subtle in the thematic department.
Overall I'd say it's better than WoK.
