I mean really, that was a little unrealistic. She looked like she was like 7 years old and had like hardly any breasts and was like not even 4'10 i bet and probably didn't weigh 90 pounds and somehow got her period? Please. I was 5'5 105 pounds and almost 14 years old before I got my first period, and she's not even 12 and looks like she's like 5 and gets hers.
I can't believe someone said they got theirs at 21. I have read that if you haven't gotten it by 16, then you should probably go in for testing because there might be something wrong that is making it not start. I have also heard that girls that are heavier get theirs sooner.
I got mine when I was 11 1/2. I remember I was so scared that day. I had no idea what to do and what was going on. I didn't tell my mom and had cramps all day at school and felt awful.
Slater: Jessie, these pills are dangerous Jessie: Yeah, well so is geometry.
Thread killer! I think alwaysvanilla got the message by now. But this has been a very educational thread. I cannot even believe it started the way that it did. "She looked 7" OMG really?
Anna Chlumsky did look younger than her age when she did this movie. Anna only grew to around 5"2, so her height at age 11 makes sense. She probably has a short mom or both her parents may shorter. Also it is pretty common for TV and film industry to use kids who are undersized. Many of the people who acted in movies and TV shows back in the 80's and 90's didn't end up being tall as adults.
11 is common age for girls to get their periods. 8-9 is considered early and as the previous poster mentioned 14 is considered late.
In real life Anna WAS 11 when the movie was made, so despite her looking like she was 7 (in your opinion) she was in fact an 11 year old playing an 11 year old. What one looks like hardly has anything to do with what's going on inside her body.
I don't know how it was for you at 14, but I got my first one at 10 or 11...at that age it's very sporadic, so like me she probably had her first one and then nothing again for months or even a couple years. You don't necessarily have to be developed in order to get a period, our bodies don't conform to hard and fast rules like that.
Anna's birthday is in December, so her character's 11½ age was still technically some time away at even the film's release date (November when she was closing out on 10). The role might have probably been more appropriate for an actress born in '79 or '78, or at least an older-looking '80 baby. Still, the role does belong to her and it's hard to picture someone else in it. Plus I don't disagree about the period issue (that is a very unpredictable thing).
They'd be pretty highly likely to make that mistake though (in fairness). I've seen even many adults of good penmanship exhibit the run-on sentence habit.
