Why does Crystal wear a Mets cap?

He's probably the most famous Yankee fan around. So what's up?

As much as I hate to bring up an old topic, I can't believe no one just looked at the "Trivia" section here on IMDb...

"Billy Crystal, a notoriously die hard New York Yankees fan, wears a New York Mets cap in the film. As explained by Crystal in the DVD Commentary, he did this because the New York Mets had made a major contribution and helped out on his annual Comic Relief charity."

Boom.

That and he was playing a sympathetic character. Mets fans are sympathetic. Yankee fans are a-holes.

The Mets aka The METROPOLITANS which exemplifies that Mitch is a City Slicker.

Billy wore the cap because when he did Comic Relief back then,he wanted to do a Comic Relief day at Yankee Stadium where they would sell merchandise and sing the national anthem before the game and do a few innings on the game telecast that night and then ask to wear the cap in the movie.Well what it came down to was the Yankees wanted a $40,000 licensing fee and the Mets waived the fee,so they went with the Mets because they did it for nothing. It's all in his new book Still Foolin' 'Em.He also said that he still told the Mickey Mantle story anyway in the movie. He also said that George Steinbrenner asked him why he wore the hat in the movie being the big Yankee fan he is,and when he told him apparently George didn't know about it,and they eventually gave them their day at the stadium afterwards.

The answer should be obvious: he wears it because his character's a huge Expos fan.
