First of all if they had so many kids, they would count them all on the plane to make sure that they were all there. There is no way they wouldn't notice that Kevin wasn't on the plane or during boarding. I am sure that at least his mother would make sure that Kevin was there after what happened last night. I mean I am sure they would see all the kids getting on the plane and going into their seats.
Why do you think that? People forget kids all the time. Parents forget to drop a child off at school on their way to work. Bus drivers don't drop off everyone and the child is found on the bus hours later. And those are just single children. The family had a bunch of children to keep track of. It is completely believable they missed that Kevin wasn't there.
Why? Why would they notice as opposed to anyone else? Children can be as self-centered or distracted as adults. They were in a rush. They almost didn't make the plane. They were excited. All of these things would easily lead to Kevin's absence not being noticed.
I was accidentally left at a gas station during a family vacation trip. I was there maybe between 15 and 40 minutes (this was a long time ago). But I was there long enough alone to begin thinking "This is my life now, I'll have to get a job and support myself to survive". I looked at the mechanic shop across the way. "I'll become a car mechanic and then get my own house". When my parents showed up, my mom hopped out and hugged me tight and she told me that she had this feeling and turned around to see my seat empty and yelled "We gotta turn around right now"!!!! I dont have that many siblings and still got left. But I jumped out the car to use the restroom before we left and I didnt tell anyone because a couple of my family were still inside getting snacks, so from everyones last memory I was in the backseat since I didnt go inside with them initially.
Its funny because I had this memory and contemplated it days before posting it now. As a kid I was able to adapt to my circumstance so quickly even though I was afraid. I was thinking things through and planning out my new life rather quickly. Nowadays I hate change and struggle to do what would help me the most. CHANGE. I've come a long way these past years, and am finally moving forward in my life to something more difficult yet much more rewarding for me. We gotta be able to adapt and not allow ourselves to get stuck.
The ultimate point, is anyone can get left behind. Add in a rush and a giant amount of children along with a miscount of heads...and theres your recipe for Kevin being left behind.
Even you could write a better movie than these Home Alone entries. Your story was almost entertaining, even if not very realistic, so maybe there's hope for humanity yet.
Your response is all over the place in tone, a positive I can write about you is that your response reminded me of a past event in my life. I wasnt wrong in that when your life gets stale or you fell stuck, you need to make some changes to get to a better place. I hope you are doing well, enjoying some movies, and not feeling stuck
Wow what a story, and interesting that your child's mind was already planning your new life, with maybe even a bit of fantasy or excitement intertwined into your thoughts.
I got left once in Washington DC On a school trip and it was pure terror for all of 15 minutes. I knew the bus would be back for me but it was very frightening to be alone in a big city.
It was plausible because they had multiple adults and when you have several people sharing the responsibility of wrangling a bunch of kids it is possible for one to think the other has accounted for a kid. It used to happen with school trips on an occasional basis until schools started doing role calls when they loaded up the bus on field trips.
Just because she counted the kids before leaving for the airport doesn't mean anything, a lot can happen from there until boarding the plane. As we've seen in the sequel for example.
Well the oldest cousin DID do a headcount but the neighborhood kid who kind of looks like Kevin messed it up. That could've happened even if Peter or Kate had done it themselves.
Their alarm didn't go off on time so they overslept. So they were late and in a hurry. Otherwise, I'm sure they would've paid closer attention.
I will say that this could NEVER happen as airport security the same as before 9/11. In today's world they would miss the flight and had to return home where they'd see Kevin sleeping or just getting out of bed to come downstairs
I have to agree, there are a few reasons why this wouldn't happen.
1) Kevin is one of the few 'relatively helpless' members of the family, that absolutely NEEDS a bit more looking after.
2) After what happened in the first movie, Kevin would be a god damn priority, there's no way he wouldn't.
3) The coincidences required to make these movies' implausibilities happen are just too big to be realistic in any way.
4) The mom definitely be SO EMOTIONAL about the possibility about leaving Kevin behind AGAIN, that she would take extra steps to ALWAYS keep her eye on Kevin, no matter what else is happening. She would friggin' CHAIN HIM TO HER WRIST if that's what it takes, there's just NO WAY she would let that happen again.
5) The dad is kind of 'just there', but even he would probably at least do something to make sure Kevin is with them - they would ABSOLUTELY have created a SYSTEM of some kind to make sure Kevin can't be left behind AGAIN.
For example, why would they do headcount as NUMBERS instead of doing it as NAMES?
They could have a list written on paper, then call everyone's name with pen on their hand, make sure the correct individual is counted for, before checking or crossing out their name. Then move to the next name, until the whole list is done.
They would do this, for example, three separate times; at the 'van' or taxi cab or airport shuttle or whatever, before getting in, then they would do it at the airport, while making sure everyone has their ticket and passport ready, then they would do it as boarding the plane, so when they sit in the plane, they could be 100% sure everyone has boarded the same plane.
It's not rocket science, a family this rich could afford the maybe 2 bucks my plan would require. God damn these movies are stupid.
'People forget kids all the time' isn't the same thing as 'most families always forget their kids'.
Of course with ENOUGH PEOPLE, there will be parents that are that negligent, but MOST PEOPLE wouldn't.
People here are making the fallacy of taking ALL THE FAMILIES IN THE WORLD and then pointing out the five or six examples of SOMETHING like this having happened once. "Look, people forget kids all the time" is not an argument, it's a fallacy based on faulty logic.
You take ONE family, and the likelihood drops almost to zero. You take one, rich family that should know better, who ALREADY ditched their kid once, and the likelihood is in the MINUS realm now. There's just _NO_FRIGGIN'_WAY_ they would forget Kevin AGAIN.
It's not even a question of 'why not' (this question wouldn't make sense), it's a question of 'WHAT WOULD MAKE THEM FORGET HIM'. There's nothing powerful enough to make them forget Kevin, except 'movie has to happen'.
That's literally the only reason most of the implausibilities and impossibilities that are absolutely required by both movies, happen in these stupidly written, nonsensical messes. Think again before trying to apply faulty logic, ok? It's the same kind of reasoning as 'murders happen', so it's 100% likely that your family will murder you.
No, it isn't, and no, it won't. People win lotteries, but it's _EXTREMELY_ unlikely. People are killed by falling meteors and lightning bolts, but you wouldn't use that as an argument that someone will experience all three events... ...twice, now would you?
That makes no sense. As has been pointed out, parents forgetting kids happens all the time. Given the circumstances of the film-- the family has a lot of kids, the child who did a headcount and mistook the neighbor's kid as a sibling, dividing the task of wrangling the kids making each adult assume the other had the remaining children-- it is not an outlandish notion that they could have forgotten their child. I don't quite know why you are saying twice, unless you are talking about the sequel. I don't recall Kevin being forgotten twice in the film.
It really just goes to show you that his whole family is neglectful. I didn't think much of it when I was younger, but even then I realized something was off. The internet has been more aware of the family's terrible treatment of Kevin. If you're that careless then I think it is possible you could forget your child.
