Truly the worst movie of all time.

It's been 13 years since I saw this movie, and to this day I cannot forget how truly horrible it was. Terrible acting, virtually no plot, lousy special effects; violence, violence, violence. This is the only movie I've ever seen that I honestly say that I hate. (Well, other than the Matrix, but at least it was entertaining).

You are truly the biggest idiot of all time

I have seen thousands of films, some goo some bad. This was the only movie I ever walked out of the theater on. Definitely the worst movie of all time.

reply

Anyone whom actually applies the cheesy hyperbolic terminology of "worst (insert media form) ever" towards any piece of art is, by default, an absolute asscap. Really? You've seen/read/listened to/analyzed/dissected them all? Alright, then. Kindly shut the *beep* up. Though virtually always said for effect, it's nonetheless so distinctly unclever that the mere sight of it in print stings and singes the corneas.

I wouldnt say its the worst of all time but I do not enjoy it very much. Some great camera work and innovative ideas but it just doesnt mesh together very well in my opinion. I really feel the same way about Dust Devil also. I really want to like these films but I just dont.

reply

nah, that title goes to the horrid Leeches (With Date Movie in 2nd place & See No Evil in 3rd)

Hardware is oscar winning material compared to Leeches & is nowhere the same league as those terrible films i've mentioned

I warned you not to go out tonight

i have to admit, I loved this movie when it first came out, and I have been waiting for it to come out since I watched it again at my friends house on VHS. I found it on Netflix on BLU RAY, and I think I am going to hold onto this one for a while. I really like the tone of the movie, and Dylan M is not a bad actor, by any stretch, even Iggy's acting isn't half bad, especially in comparison to his hack job in The Crow: City Of Angels. I would recommend anyone who watched this once, and harted it, to watch it again. It is one of the best sci-fi's I have ever seen. I loved it as much as I loved Blade Runner, and IMHO, ranks right up there with it. And I agree with a prior post, if this movie had a Matrix type budget, imagine how balls out it would be?

Agreed jrock. If you look past the low budget it really is a great movie to watch. Maybe not award winning great, but great in the sense that it's immensely enjoyable. I think those that don't like it are trying to take it a little too seriously.

And the juke box plays. Apocalyptic be-bop.

reply

Frankly I think Hardware is a fantastic movie. Considering it's low budget I feel it is very inventive regarding what they had to make it with, you completely buy into it's vision of despair and hopelessness within a post-nuclear scorched earth. Even James Cameron enjoyed it (according to the producer on the UK dvd commentary anyway). It is not as little_wing pointed out 'award winning great', but really does it matter? This movie set out to do what it did and succeeded.

By no means the worst movie ever made.

everyone who creates a post called "worst movie of all time" gets to my ignore list. You are not exception, especially one that says it hated The Matrix.

I saw this film for the first time the other day and thought it was very bad. I came close to switching it off half way through. The story was slow and dull. They managed to create a fairly interesting world and then just stayed stuck in one apartment. I really did not care what happened to any of the characters. The effects were very poor. I was shocked when I read it was from 1990. I thought it was more like early 80's. I notice that a lot of people who like it say "Considering the low budget...", well I don't want to have to think about the budget while I'm watching a film. If I am thinking about any aspect of the making of a film while I watch it then it is a shortcoming of the film. It is perfectly possible to make a great movie with not much money. This is not an example of this because even with the best effects ever you would still be left with bad acting and a dull plot. All the interesting things were backstory that was abandonded for the sake of the apartment aspect. I just read that the comic it was based on was only seven pages long. That seems spot on for the story that was told. Why the hell did someone think they could drag it out for an hour and a half and still keep it interesting?

I was looking thru the list of worst movies of all time (as rated by IMDB) because of a new documentary about Troll2 being the worst of all time. Immediately my mind raced back to the day I went to see this at the movies when it came out so many years ago. I remember the newspaper saying it was a mix of Star Wars & Alien. This was before the Internet so no IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes to read on about this film...and being a fan of both SW & Alien, then it's a no brainer. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't have any sharp objects in my pokets when I saw this because I would have poked out my eyes and eardrums to save me from this piece of garbage. The only thing that suprises me is this isn't in the Top 100 worst films on this site. I have to think this is the worst film I've ever seen...and I've seen a lot. If you've seen this (I'm sorry) and if you haven't PLEASE save yourself and DO NOT watch.

I love this movie... well I did...

Until you came along and you were so convincing that it made me see how wrong I was. I'm so ashamed, how I could ever like this film and think it was the greatest achievement in cinema history. 13 years hey... and you still remember it. Wow it must be truly the worst ever. I bow to you and those worst movie of all time threads that make things right.

Yeah, um, mmm, *cough* *cough*

To all the "worst movie ever/ this movie sucks" people....

get out there and make your OWN movie.

when we have watched it, we will appraise it.

THEN we will acknowledge your opinion.

ONLY THEN.

after being in a touring rock band, i will NEVER dismiss anyones songs/singing/playing/style etc.... i try to look at movies the same way.

i am not good enough to have made/been involved in, a film.

so i am not good enough to truly judge another who has.

*beep* simple really.

I have to disagree with you in a big way there for two reasons.

Firstly, I'm not a film-maker. I'm sure that if I tried to make one it would be rubbish. But that's fine because, like a said, that's not my job. If it is your job to make a film then you should do it well. If a plane crashes into a mountain and it turns out it was down to pilot error then it's OK to criticise him. Just because I don't know how to fly a plane doesn't mean I can't recognize when someone else is doing it badly. It's the same with almost any profession but particularly films and music because they are designed specifically to be seen or heard by other people, which leads me to my second reason.

Following your logic of people in some way earning the right to an opinion, would it not mean that when you play one of your gigs (bearing in mind that it's most like that the majority of the audience won't be in bands) you don't think that they should have an opinion of what you're doing on stage. As a musician, or film-maker, I would have thought that it would be a massive insult to have people see and hear you and that what you have done has had so little impact that they don't even form an opinion.

I have no idea if your band is any good or not, but I'm sure that even if you're really, really good, somewhere along the line there will have been people in the audience who didn't enjoy it. That's just how it goes. The thing is, even if you or me disagree with them they are totally entitled to their opinion.

This is a discussion board for films. The majority of people on it will never have made a film. If two non film-makers have differing opinions on a film, why would the opinion of the one who likes it be more relevant?

reply

Excellent points... each one well thought out,and I must agree with each. I guess that I am guilty as charged of over reacting...but I was not replying to the O.P. because I'm a slavering fan-boy,or indeed because I felt the need to defend the film itself.... rather, it was the attitude that the poster didn't like the film (fair enough) and so judged it "Truly ther worst movie of all time"...

This is a statement that I for one am getting sick of seeing spouted off by people, as, (unlike your very well put reply) it has absolutely no constructive merit, and does nothing to help someone who hasn't seen the film get an idea if it's worth 2+ hours of their life.

Rant over, soapbox down. thanx for reading.

my freinds know I'm always there...

reply

Yeah, "Worst of all time" is a dumb phrase because no one has seen all the films ever made. "Worst I've ever seen" would be fair enough but you know that the same people would say that about every film that they didn't like.

And if want to call it over reacting you can, but I'd just call it passionate. Nothing wrong with that buddy. Peace.
