Truly the worst movie of all time.

It's been 13 years since I saw this movie, and to this day I cannot forget how truly horrible it was. Terrible acting, virtually no plot, lousy special effects; violence, violence, violence. This is the only movie I've ever seen that I honestly say that I hate. (Well, other than the Matrix, but at least it was entertaining).

The first Matrix movie was entertaining. The second one was boring and I skipped the third.

Personally I'd be loathe to claim that Hardware was a good movie or anything particularly original, but it's certainly a long way from the worst I've ever seen, and I still want it on DVD.

reply

The first Matrix movie is not entertaining. It's all hype. Underneath the hype, it's typical Hollywood hogwash. The only unique thing it gave us is the intensely annoying freeze-the-action-and-then-spin-the-camera effect. I'd like to find the person who thought that up and drive a railroad spike through his skull.

reply

The guy who created the effect of "bullet time" is john geta...

And the matrix totally introduced a heavy eastern philosophical element to the states' youth and young adult generations. The hollywood "hogwash" was there for people who like eye candy, and those who can't understand the concept of "it's not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself"

The orginal poster is an idiot. Worst film of all time? The Matrix, whooptie doo. Imagine how even better Hardware could have been on a Matrix budget. Hardware is one of the best sci-fi horror films ever made. Stanley's a good director, and bad acting? Dumb plot? Stick to your McDonald's job, because a movie review professonal, you'll never be. Since when did Dylan Mcdermott become a bad actor? And Stacy Travis did a great job in this film. This film had a great storyline, and had a "believable" setting of a post apocolyptic world. The M.A.R.K. 13 Robot appeared real, and not cheesy. After 15 years, still an awesome flick. Watch it, and you'll see why we're bashing the orginal post on this thread. Another good one directed by Richard Stanley was "Dust Devil" check it out.

When I first saw Hardware I also thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen... But a friend convinced me to see it again. And so I did. All of a sudden Hardware was one of the best movies I've seen!
I guess you have to see it atleast twice to appreciate it as the masterpiece it is =)

reply

I love this movie.
I'm not about to argue with people who didnt like it because I can see how it could go either way. Some movies are just not for everyone.
I have a hard time with the people who said it was the worse they've ever seen though. I guess no one's ever forced them to watch Dirty Dancing.

The way this film was shot combined with a great score/soundtrack created a terrific post-apocalyptic atmosphere. I thought it was McDermit's best performance and I loved the guy who played shades. (especially his little drug moment in his own apartment)

I thought the effects were just fine (that was another criticism I didnt understand)

I did notice some religious symbolism when i watched the film but i dont want to dwell on anything deeper than what was on the surface to justify my enjoyment of the movie.

I liked the pace, the mood, the ending ... pretty much everything.

Would i reccoment it to everyone - no way ...
Just to people who like dark little films.

I definately wouldnt recommend it to someone who judges all sci-fi films by Star Wars standards

every single movie on this forum has a thick wanker posting "this is the worst movie I've ever seen" on its board.

It tells you more about the stupid wanker writing the post than the movie.

Maybe the tosser has only ever seen truly stunning movies that are better than hardware - in which case - he's actually right - but I doubt it.

And if he thinks anyone on the planet is interested in his uneducated moronic opinion, then he's deluding himself.

Good film hardware innit? I just got the OST.

4 words........ House of the Dead

reply

All I remember about this film is some over the top sex scene with some perv watching it.

I don't want to see it again.

reply

[deleted]

No, I have to confess I enjoyed "House Of The Dead". It was fun picking holes in the plot, but some of the action scenes set to music were great.

Now, "Freddy Got Fingered", there's a lousy movie for you. Stuff that is hysterically funny done in real life to unsuspecting real people becomes meaningless when it's just scripted with actors. The Jackass crew took their idiocy abroad; Tom Green should've done the same. Or he could have just sat in a chair, stared at the camera, and thrown bundles of money onto a fire for 90 minutes; would've been as much fun as FGF, especially if audiences got angry enough to trash the theaters.

reply

i have to second the fact that this forum is filled with children who claim every film that they dislike is the worst thing they've ever seen. its a bit tiresome.

reply

[deleted]

I however, will argue with this guy. STAND UP NEXT TIME, AND IT WON'T GO OVER YOUR HEAD, JACKASS.

reply

Do you wanna see a REAL bad film? Watch The Last Samurai.

reply

Give me Hardware over The Matrix any day.
Claustrophobic killer robot movie vs pseudo-intellectual eye candy for the masses.

You know, this a s S h0le is saying that this is the worst movie ever. Friend let me tell you something. Have you ever seen Ang Lee´s Hulk? or Spielberg´s adaptation of HG Wells War of the Worlds?... or Legally Blond 2... Holy *beep* Son of the Mask??? and the Scary Movie sequels? Those are pure cinematic trash even when War of the Worls in a FX Level was quite impressive.

reply

I can't help but agree, this movie is very cold and distant. Check out my review @ http://reviewfix.com/2009/10/hard-to-swallow/

reply

Ahh.. Sure you may not have liked it, but that just says more about you. I'll bet you hated THX 1138? Or wait! I'll bet you've never seen it. Or if you had you squirmed in your seat for the first five minutes and left 'cause you couldn't take it. That's okay. We all seemed to have appreciated this modest film except for you. Maybe you should go watch Shrek again (it still kills me that Waking Life lost the Oscar to this abomination) There are plenty of films out there for every one. This one is just not for you.

reply

When I started this thread, I was simply voicing an opinion. Nothing more or less. That does not make me a wanker or a s**thole. Also, that doesn't mean I watch only mainstream movies like Shrek. Have you liked every movie you've ever seen? Again, it my my opinion, and I really don't care whether you people liked it or not.

reply

This was one of my favorite movies when I was 16. This movie got me into Ministry and industrial music which I listened to for the next 4 years or so. There were some terrible things about this movie but some good ones as well. The infrared sex scene was cool, the art she makes was also pretty interesting. There are a lot of films that are worse, here are 3 for starters.

Death Becomes Her
Vanity Fair
Highlander 2

reply

You are quite entitled to not like this movie, however, to unapologetically call it the worst movie of all time seems to be nothing less than puerile attention seeking and a deliberate attempt to be controversial.

I can understand how the grungy nihilism could grate against your naive sensibilities, there fore I would strongly recommend you do not see anything directed by Abel Ferrara or "Henry: Portrait of a serial killer".

"Movies is high class."
"Yes, they is, isn't they."

reply

some of you people have strange ideas about what a bad movie is. If you want to see a TRULY bad movie, watch some garbage like Skeleton Man or Deacula 3000 and then you'll get an idea of what a bad movie really is. But I guess as with anything opinions are like asses, everybody's got one and they all stink!!!

reply

I agree I don't agree with the Matrix part but this is on par with dune its that bad. I don't think anyone can remember they're real worst film they've ever seen, just the worst at that particular moment in time. But just remembering this movie leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Firstly I couldn't believe this film was made in 90's the special effects were that bad. Secondly until today I would never have believed that there was anybody on this planet who thought that was a good movie. If I were the director I would have taken my name off the cover.

reply

farradin, shows you what an idiot you are, a LOT of people think Hardware's a good movie, and it is. What do you want from a sci-fi film maker? It was filmed in early 1990, and I'd imagine it's budget was very modest. This ain't Speilberg (who you probably think is the god of film making), and you'd probably think War Of The Worlds was better then Hardware. The special effects were far from as bad as you credited, and the storyline was pretty creative. Next time try watching it without the crack pipe.

reply

I'd have to say the effects were very good for the budget and time. Some of the robot animatronics and obvious guy with a suit scenes were weak, compared to say the miniature mastery used in Death Machine, but the scene where Lincoln is killed is spectacular.

reply

I have got to admit, i saw this the day it opened in the theater. I remember thinking "what the hell actually happened" and I sorta remember some reference to popcorn popping in your ahole or something. There is only one thing that still stands out in my mind about this movie and that is that I was totally infuriated at having to spend the $2.75 on it.

reply

Worst movie ever? I dont think so, not in the slightest...
The setting of Hardware is one of the best ive ever seen in a dystopic movie like this one, hell if they would have spent more time outside the apartment i could have turned out a fantastic movie. I love it all in all, good stuff.

reply

Considering this was made on a shoe-string, this isn't bad at all. I saw it years ago, but still remember it as a very dark and sexy film.
The thing that sticks in my mind is the sort of hippy character at the beginning, who scavenges the contaminated area. I think he was called a zone-tripper. I reckon they could have made a great film about him....

reply

[deleted]

I agree. It's one of my all time favorite movies, and with the cameos it made it great. Even with the low budget, I think they did a fantastic job.

I too was hoping for a sequel.
