Very good movie but not GREAT, one flaw I cannot forgive.

I could not give this movie a perfect ten for ONE reason. That total jerk portrayed by Michael G Hall died a horrible death at the hands of Edward. I have a BIG problem with this. Yes he was an A hole BUT I do not think death was appropriate. Some people DO deserve to die. The joker in BATMAN check, the villains of ROBOCOP check, Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi check. However this guy did NOT rise up to that level, he was just a jerk and in my opinion a non fatal defeat would have been more appropriate. I am fine with him being publicly shamed and humiliated, disowned by his father, even ending up in jail but not actual DEATH.

I would agree he did not deserve to die up until the point he became murderous. Don't forget, he went after Edward with a gun. He beat Edward with what looked to be a fire poker or some other steel weapon.

Edward killed in self defense. So he wasn't "just a jerk." He was an attempted murderer.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

You do realize he was trying to kill Edward?

Jim was a sociopath who deserved to die.

OP, I would not want forgiveness from an asshole like you.

You CANNOT forgive? I’ll alert the fucking media.

There's an important shot in the film, that people seem to often overlook and that hints at something much darker in Edward's psychological makeup than his sweet, naive and innocent persona: it's the shot of Edward tearing the bathroom's wallpaper with his hands, searing with jealousy and rage.
It's a shot that's even repeated in Burton's Dark Shadows, also to express jealous rage, see here: https://ibb.co/Pj7VfPf.
It's a hint that the lonely, and eccentric, artistic outsiders/dreamer type like Ed is often likely to have narcissistic and antisocial trait in real life. Bill Boggs is rightly concerned that Edward only has a rudimentary grasp of what's good and bad.
