Sounds like its the old extended cut, which has been released on DVD before. Phew. I got scared that he would make yet another cut which removes all testosterone, animal cruelty and any scene that portraits Mastrantonio's woman character in weak light from the original film.

reply

yes probably be the Special Edition cut but with CG 'tweaks' like that recent version of T2 from few years back

No doubt with this alternate ending! ...

I'm guessing the its just the Special Edition cut that's been available for years. I will make sure to go to theaters on December 6th as I've never seen the movie.

reply

This is a 4K release, though, which will finally make its way to Blu-Ray. It's previously only been available on DVD and in (upscaled) 1080p on streaming.

reply

It was shown recently on Finnish television. It was the extended special edition cut, but letterboxed 4:3 image was stretched to 16:9 and the rat liquid breathing scene was edited shorter, so it must have been a British copy.

reply

" stretched to 16:9"

what? like literally stretched so everything was out of proportion?
or the 4:3 was cropped top & bottom top make a 16:9 shape?

both ideas seem pointless to me

reply

Aspect ratio looked like 3.5:1 on 16:9 television. The image was just stretched horizontally on 16:9 screen. No cropping.

reply

for me thats unwatchable vandalism
not fit for purpose.

I guess if it was the only way I could access it , I'd capture it to the PC and squish it up back into 4:3
then watch it on my 16:9 tv with black vertical borders either side

reply

Well, I always have my old trusted DVD. Now I'm waiting for the new 4K UHD release, though.

reply

No, the theatrical cut was on the DVD as well.

reply

Anyone going to the screening on December 6th? I bought my ticket this morning and pretty excited as I've never seen the movie.

reply

Exciting! Let us know how it is, and if you cried during that emotional scene which always gets me...... you'll know which one.

reply

I didn't cry but it was very good. Learning about the very troubled production you could feel the tension in almost every scene. It'll take a few times to watch it to process the whole movie. Seeing it on the big screen for the very first time was the way to go and I was in the large format theater.

reply

Thanks for the update! Sounds like a good experience.

reply

I want to watch again but it won't be until the 4k disc is in my hand.

reply

I just came back from it.

reply

How was it?
