How in the hell did the this movie get 4.6 out of 10????? Honestly, I understand this is no Godfather but it's an ACTION MOVIE!!!! It's not meant to be dramatic, it meant to be entertaining!!! And I can't see how this movie would bore anybody, the actions is amazing! So what's the deal?
u r right ! this is a legendary action movie and it was made way ahead of its time...imdb can do anything....these fools have rated inception at 4th place !!!
I guess people who grew up on those movies like I did might enjoy them much more, and therefore we see them as what they are; over-the-top yet well entertaining movies for what they are trying to achieve. And as much as the Rambo movies are mostly centered on action sequences, I have to say that for me, ALL of them also do have something to say, or at least they wanted to make people aware of certain issues, whether it's the absense of support granted to the Vietnam veterans after the war by the people or their own government, or the cruelties lived by the Afghan people during their invasion by the Russians, or the alarming situation of chaos lived by many people in Burma because of the highly volatile potical situation. Of course, the Rambo movies do contain poor dialogues sometimes and they are often not realistic at all and the acting might not be Oscar material, but even then everyone of them still have some good acting, some good dialogues and several well made action sequences, however unrealistic they are, and this is more that I can say for a lot of action movies produced nowadays. And I'm sorry but the ratings on IMDB, being highly subjective, are not necessarily indicative of the quality of a picture. It's my opinion, but for me it is ridiculous that a movie like Rambo 3 get an average of 5/10 while very poor movies like Transformers 2 or Knight and Day get averages of 6/10 and 6.5/10 respectively. Numerous so-called action movies nowadays not only have no substance whatsoever (which in itself is ok as long as the movie is remotely well entertaining), but they are just so artifical they almost seem like annoying feature-lenght videoclips driven only by often mediocre special effects and completely uninspired action sequences. I would take a Rambo 3 anyday instead of over-blown, ridiculous and more recent action movies like Bad Boys 2 or Die Hard 4.

you are absolutely right!!! you have given examples of bad boys 2 and die hard 4 but we have much more ridiculous (examples) movies like transformers 1 and 2. they are better rated for their "ACTION" whch is nothing but crap !
Transformers 2 in particular was especially bad I thought. The first one was passable since I had absolutely no expectation, but the second one was just too much in terms of over-the-top yet bland action sequences. For me, though, Bad Boys 2 and Die Hard 4 were even more frustrating since the precedent Die Hard movies were much much superior and even Bad Boys 1 was rather good for what it was, so I was very dissapointed to see how those series were wasted in the end. In terms of action movies from the last few years, though, I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised, even impressed by the last Rambo, which once again satisfied me: uncompromising in its brutality yet meaningful, I think it's almost on par with the first movie in some aspects and it certainly once again demonstrated for me that Sly is quite a decent director (besides being a good actor). Speaking of Sly, I also liked The Expendables quite a bit for what it was: a funny, entertaining throw-back to the 80's style of action movies which evidently didn't take itself too seriously and still managed to have pretty good action sequences, besides having a memorable and playful cast for the fans of course. Recently, I was even surprised to see how much I enjoyed RED, which despite being a PG-13 (the graphic novel is apparently R-Rated material filled with plenty of red stuff), was still an enjoying ride with a good cast and fun actions sequences.

just admit it folks and cut all this bull... here- IT IS 10/10!!
it is the perfect actionmovie and among the TOP 5 of all action movies. My parents would give this a 3 i guess cause they are into those "dialogue" movies;) nothing against sophisticated movies but to really be in awe and therefore give a perfect 10 rating it has to be movies where i piss myself of excitement (happens every time ;))
also rambo movies have that iconic epic aura that almost no other movies have.
I gave this movie a solid 6. The Afghan characters were likeable, Stallone executed his fights with pure awesomeness, and the "sneaking in the fortress" was brilliantly executed. I personaly prefered the story over Rambo II. Other than that, my complaint goes to too much explosions and bad dialogue. Seriously, sometimes the action gets dull, really dull, and you're like "oh c'mon, stop these explosion already....".
Any movie America Wins is hated by certain people no matter what the content. Unfortunately, many of them are lily livered pampered gutless Americans who think nothing is worth fighting for. As they enjoy all the benefits of the millions of Americans and other Westerners who died so we can watch Rambo Movies.
