I can't be the only one who thinks that Tom Cruise was not good in this movie. He got on my nerves more so than anything. The only other one that was worse was his girlfriend.

What movie do you think is Cruise's best then?
I always liked his performance in Rain Man, and I would probably go as far as saying this is my favorite acting performance from him. I think he captured every real life moment as someone in his situation really would have acted. I have tons of scene fromthis movie that I love the performances in that I could even begin to explain.
Are you kidding? I was totally stunned by his performance. Of course Dustin Hoffmann was great but equally great was Tom Cruise. It was superb and very subtle how he performed the change of such a self-centered guy in a convincingly manner. In the end it looked natural although on paper it really sounds sentimental.

Depends what the "par" is - if compared to Cruise´s usual bland non-entity self, than it´s not necessarily subpar. Anyways I think someone described the situation between Cruise and Hoffman in Rain Man as "tho rocks rubbing together in a vain effort to produce fire" i.e. their interaction leaves at least a little to be desired (incidentally, the following was elsewhere said about Hoffman: "the best that can be said of Hoffman´s Oscar-lauded performance is that it´s consistent, an actor´s equivalent to watchable white noise"... which I more or less agree with - it´s a typical mannerism-heavy Oscar bait as is the whole idea of launching a cinematic retard onto the infamously tearjerk-receptive Academy. His showy work isn´t even in the same league with Jeremy Irons´s subtle double turn in Dead Ringers). Top it all off with Golino with her annoying accent and one-note persona and you´ve got one difficult-to-watch film.

Thank you.I felt like he took his Brian Flanagan character from Cocktail and put him in this movie.Tom's a decent actor in certain films.I think he was put in alot of movies based on who he was and his stardom.I also thought he was miscast in The Color Of Money.I thought someone like Matt Dillon or James Spader could have done that role better.Cocktail?Anyone could have done that.That's something I could have seen a guy like Rob Lowe doing.My problem with him in All The Right Moves was I didn't find him passable as a football player.He also to me wasn't that great in Legend,Minority Report,Far And Away and Days Of Thunder either.He was really good in A Few Good Men,Jerry Maguire,Born On The Fourth Of July,and okay in Collateral.

Exactly, Tom Cruise's character is supposed to be yuppie douchebag who suddenly found love in the end for his long lost autistic older brother.

Don't confuse the actor with the character he is playing. Of course Charlie was not likeable, but Cruise played the role with style and grace.
