Does OJ Simpson kind of ruin your enjoyment of the movie now

I mean the movies are funny don't get me wrong, but OJ kind of ruins it for me now. I just feel strange watching it.

reply

Well considering the movies he experiences excruciating amounts of pain in some scenes I think it adds to the comedy.

reply

It doesn't ruin it for me, but it is kind of wierd watching it. It's almost hard to believe there was a time when people loved OJ.

reply

Not really. Think of it this way. The guy keeps getting beat up, especially in this one. Think of that as vengence for what he did later on and what he is rotting in jail for.

Although O.J. definitely deserves to be severely punished for what he had done, no, he doesn't ruin the trilogy for me at all. I still enjoy his antics as detective Nordberg. In fact, whenever I see him in the trilogy, I just put his murder scandal aside, and enjoy his antics for what they are. It's basically an example of separating the man from his work.

Anyone know how the cast and crew of The Naked Gun trilogy reacted to his murder scandal? I can't seem to find anything on that.

I wonder how many of you that find he has ruined the movie now still watch a Roman Polanski movie?

reply

Umm, weren't the movies made before that whole thing kicked off? Therefore you're watching an innocent man frozen in time in whatever year it was made.

...you're watching an innocent man...

...who, unbeknownst to most of us, regularly beat the crap out of his wife at the time.

As a kid, I loved "The Juice". Once I realized he was a serial wife-beater who finally took it to the next level by murdering Nicole and Ron, he became nothing but another waste of oxygen.

When news of the murders first broke, I remember the bucket of cold water that Keith Olbermann threw on everybody who at one time idolized Simpson, when he said on ESPN something like, "People are shocked that someone about whom they've never heard a bad word could possibly be involved. For me, having covered sports in Los Angeles for 9 years, I personally never heard a GOOD word about the man."

So, yes, for me, his presence does sort of ruin the movie for me whenever he appears on screen. It's very sad, because you immediately realize that Nicole and Ron were still alive at the time and had no idea what was about to happen to them at the hands of this vile waste of organic matter.

reply

I don't really follow sports (my father and brothers were/are fb fans), but as a young girl, I had a bit of a crush on him. It was like a kick in the stomach when I heard what he was accused of and, naturally, I didn't want to believe it because I'd never heard/read any negative press either. I found your quote from Keith Olbermann interesting and disturbing - it follows that many people in the sports community must have known, but still he was protected. Two people would likely be alive today if others hadn't looked the other way. When you get down to it, not much has changed from those days; many athletes of today are not held truly accountable for their actions.

reply

Never saw one, and it has nothing to do with his personal life.

It's not even remotely the same. Polanski didn't brutally murder two innocent people.

I saw Leslie Nielson on a talk show (maybe Rosie) and it was clear from his speech that there would be no additional sequels due to OJ. I took it to be disgust. Of course I have no idea what was in OJ's contract, but assume he was assured of additional work if sequels continued.

reply

Wow and I thought Lance Henrikson was the only other choice.

This is my murder-swagger, I wear the skin-trophy of my prey.
