When did you see the twist coming? (Spoilers)

At first, I was thinking Janet was in on it with Freddy when she first appeared. It later became clear they weren't in on it together. The moment I knew for sure she was playing them was when she said she didn't have the money and Lawrence commented on how wonderful a person she was. It was pretty obvious at that point, which sort of ruined the reveal towards the end. Overall, it was still a funny movie, but they could have done a better job of hiding the twist.

I didn't see it coming. I was about 12 years old the first time I watched this movie so I had no idea.

reply

I remember watching it, on video tape, would be 1990.

And I'm pretty sure I didn't get that twist until about the time it was revealed, the only thing I seem to remember is something nagging at me when she runs out from the plane with the bag she gives back to Lawrence.

I did notice her eyes kind of scope the hotel lobby when we first see her, and it did seem a bit odd that what we initially see and are presented with is a wealthy heiress, but later revealed as a normal person who's won a competition did seem a little odd - but if I'm honest, it was about the time of the reveal, really, for me.

reply

I didn't see it coming - and when the film came out nobody I knew guessed it nor was it remarked upon in reviews at the time.

Maybe now we're too savvy looking for the twists etc.

reply

Right from the start. This film was about being conned, plus I figured the two men would get their come-uppance. I wouldn't say it was obvious though.

When Janet was walking in high heels and carrying shopping bags...and she tripped and fell. A con like her was not used to walking in high heels.

reply

She faked tripping though, to get whoever to rush over.

I was a teen and didn't see it coming.

I often try not to look for twists. It's exhausting and bores me.

I can't try to look for twists in everything - not everything has twists.

So I usually take things at face value with films. To a limit anyways, and depending on the genre.

When she gets up from falling and, in close up, very deliberately scopes out the room, THAT's when I thought she might be a con artist

When she shows up crying, saying Freddy robbed her, THAT's when I was sure.

reply

when she turned up crying and saying she'd been robbed.

Did you also watch it on ITV, Louise?
I think we have met before

reply

It was on the telly a few days ago, but i didn't actually notice which channel, there are so many nowadays. very likely it was ITV.

reply

I'm usually pretty bad at figuring out twists; this film was no exception. I never saw it coming.
