What made you laugh out loud?
What was your favorite and funniest scene? Mine was when Ruprict (Martin) poked himself in the eye with the fork that had a cork on it.

shareIt alway's cracks me up when Janet comes back and introduces all those people to the Austrailians (Tules O'Hullahan??), then slaps Freddies face with the introduction of his partner, then goes on to say that he is mute and cannot talk. It just goes to show what she really thinks of Freddy. I laugh out loud every time!
shareThese have been chosen, but I'll vote for my laugh-out loud moments:
Glenne- "you heard the story about his girlfriend...how did that make you feel?"
Michael - "It made me physically sick." (EVERY time I bust a gut)
Steve's "May I go to the bathroom first?"........"Thank you"
The entire first scene in "Ruprekt's room" from Steve's scrambling off the tire swing (him and michael caine on the bed is KILLER).
I love this movie!
you watched it, you can’t unwatch it
Katie, Janet was setting up Larry as Chips O'toole, an Aussie Real Estate developer. I think she was also setting up the next scam and knew that Freddie would be better if he didn't open his mouth. Cheers..tez
shareIt wasn't a "laugh out loud" moment but one scene shows the genius of this movie. It was when Freddy was left in the hotel suite with the sailors.
You're expecting him to get beat up at least a little for deceiving them but in the morning he's just leaning against the doorway, chatting congenially with everyone. Then, out of the blue, we see him fall to his knees and ask for the super glue solvent.
Too many funny moments...
Before the first woman from Oklahoma meets Ruprecht when Laurence says he feels like a kept man...
"Oh please don't be angry with me, here comes the creep man coming to get you...there's that smile!!!"
"Perhaps we should go by ship...Ruprecht loves the water..."
"Rup..Rupert?"
"Yes, Ruprecht."
Before Laurence opens the huge deadbolt on Ruprecht's quarters...
"Ruprecht it is I, your brother...no sudden moves"
Then after Ruprecht rolls off Laurnece on the bed, Laurence stands up and says I'd like to indtroduce you to so and so, Ruprecht who is staring at the woman, extends his arm up with hand in position to have it taken by Laurence so he can be led over to her...gets me every time.
"Ooooo-kla-homa, Okla-homa, Okla-homa, Okla-homa, Okla-homa..."
"He'll love Oklahoma's wide open spaces...He loves to run and run and run!!!"
The dinner scene
"Not mother?"
"No Ruprecht, she's not our mother"
"Go on Diana, you were saying that you don't think the poor should be allowed in museums..."
"I Think the poor should...oooooooooooooooohhh!!!!"
(She shrieks and the look on his face as Ruprecht grabs her hand is priceless)
"RUPRECHT!!!"
"May I take your trident, sir?"
"yesssssssssssss"
(The fact that he is about two feet lower than both of them is brilliant)
"Oh god, they're dancing...they're dancing! Take me from this place!!!"
"I have a plan for zis jackal...I know a man, Rene ze Knife, who owes me a favor...he is a an absolute genius with a stilleto and a magician at hiding a body...as police inspector I assure you the case will be handled in a very slipshod manner."
"Then after Ruprecht rolls off Laurnece on the bed, Laurence stands up and says I'd like to indtroduce you to so and so, Ruprecht who is staring at the woman, extends his arm up with hand in position to have it taken by Laurence so he can be led over to her...gets me every time. "
That gets me every time. Just how Steve Martin walks and is being led over by Micheal Caine is just pure genius.
Not Mother????
The Whole Whipping scene.
Look he is so happy he is crying.

*LOL* Just looking at the subject of this thread - without opening it - my first thought was the fork-on-the-cork jamming into the eyepatch. TOO dang funny!

nobody has mentioned this one..
Ruprecht getting amorous with Lawrence's lady visitor..
'Ruprecht, Ruprecht, do you want the genital cuff?! ...and you see Ruprecht sping across the screen away from her...blows my chips every time..
The leg whipping scene is my favorite. But here are some others that I love:
Steve Martin conning the woman on the train to buy him a meal while Micheal Caine watches.
Steve Martin at the roulette table and trying to get money for one of his medals. The reply, "I'm sorry I cannot Monsieur."
Micheal Caine conning Fanny Eubanks was pretty funny.
Micheal Caine explaining to Glenne Headly, "One of my former patients. Unfortunately incurable."
When Caine and Martin meet for the first time on the train. The whole exchange between the two of them is GREAT!

I will not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
I will face my fear.
I will let it pass through me.

lotsa one liners, ian mcdirmands pissed off butler was good.
one of my fav parts is one of the weirdest, when steve martin is acting like that manchild, and caine asks "what did you do for uncle charlie?" and he grabs a dish glove and coats it with ky. oye.
Yes I think the leg-whipping scene is the best. I don't think there is anyone in the world that could have acted that scene better than Steve Martin.
Also the bit just before when Steve Martin has his eyes covered as Janet reveals Dr Schaufhaussen - the way his smile suddenly turns to an open-mouthed frown is hilarious!

"Reprecht, eat your apple sauce."
"Or my name isn't Dr....Emile...Shuffhausen...zee sird!"
So many excellent scenes: the whole Ruprecht sequence, the nightclub, Martin on the aircraft with 'Lady' Fanny, but worthy of special mention is the leg-whipping scene. However, while the whipping itself is hilarious, the preamble is just sublime. It's the sight of Caine putting on the small, wire-rimmed glasses and the look on Martin's face and his calmly nestling his chin on his hand as he prepares for the horror of Caine's retribution that is just so classy.
"Someone has been tampering with Hank's memories."
Everything with Ruprecht. :) Just love it.
