Am I the only one who doesn't find Mel Brooks movies funny?

I grew up watching spoof movies of the 80s and 90s. I loved Airplane, I loved the Naked Gun trilogy, I even liked the Hot Shots and the earlier Scary Movie movies and I simply hate what has happened to the entire genre since. However for some reason most of Mel Brooks movies don't stake a cord in me, most of them just aren't funny. Blazing Saddles wasn't funny, Spaceballs wasn't funny, Young Frankenstein wasn't funny. His only movie I found moderately funny was Robin Hood men in Tights.

My mom's like that. She hates satire.

I walked out of Men In Tights.

Yes. Yes, you are.

Just kidding, you aren't - you are just a liar. There's NO ONE in the whole existence that doesn't find Mel Brooks' movies funny.

i gotta admit, they were fairly funny to me as a kid, now watching most of them again - after many repeat views - as an adult, most of it doesn't work for me anymore. I can see, and understand, how it did when my humor knowledge was basic, and zany things caught me off guard, but with age and wisdom I seek more DEPTH in comedy now. and mel brookes, and even my beloved Zucker stuff just brings a nostalgic smile, but almost no laughs.

reply

Na you're not the only one. My dad fucking hated Spaceballs lol.

It just means your sense of humor is underdeveloped. Nothing to worry about. People live reasonable lives wIth all sorts of disabilities these days I hear.

I used to find Men in tights mildly funny when I was eleven. Watched it again and not a single laugh. I guess my brain is getting old.

reply

All joking aside it could be oversaturation. Try not watching anything for a while.
