Do you skip the first few minutes?

I always thought it was a mistake to start the movie with the very long panning of Spaceball One! I know it was supposed to take a long time but I always forward it when I watch it on DVD!

Does anyone do the same?

reply

Those who skip that scene I think didn't understand that it's meant to be a joke.

And thus don't get the movie at all.

Never. I find it hilarious.

**** no I don't fast forward.

If they ever make a sequel, they should start it with the overly long spaceship intro but break it up so that it's interspersed throughout the movie, occassionally cutting to it and reaching the end of the ship just before credits.

Just my one cent since I can't afford two.

but i thought it was a rip at Star Wars (you know the really big ship that seems to keep going and going)...

reply

Well, it reminded me of the first shot of the Discovery ship in 2001. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars (probably why I enjoyed this parody so much).

No, I never skip pas that part, although, I do FF thru the first wedding, that is the dullest part of the movie.

DiNozzo: "Are we fighting?"
Ziva: "If we were. You'd be on the floor...Bleeding."

reply

Are you kidding?! The first wedding was hilarious.

Roland: All right, everyone, starting on the left foot. (puts his right foot out)

Vespa: Daddy, that's your right foot.

Roland: It's too late! Keep going!

And also the guy doing a play by play of Vespa's escape is gold:

Space minister: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here on this most joyous occasion, to witness Princess Vespa, daughter of King Roland....
going RIGHT PAST THE ALTER..... heading DOWN THE RAMP...... and OUT THE DOOR!"

I just can't fast forward any scene in this movie. Every frame is like cherished.

"Did you catch that Stallone retrospective at the omni?"

reply

I skip to the point were the priest is giving the play by play... the first part is just not as funny to me as it use to be.

No way! I wouldn't think of skipping any scene in this film. Heck everytime I watch, after the movie is over I go to the chapter select menu and rewatch my favorite scenes(which is more than half of them, lol)

I think it's a play on the opening of 'Alien.'

reply

I love the first part. Each time you think the ship is coming to an end, it keeps going. The music is done perfectly which makes the scene work.

reply

There's a deleted scene from Alien of the full panning of the ship. I think it's actually longer than the scene in Space Balls. (55 seconds)

I almost pressed right arrow to skip this thread..
