Exterminator 2 (never saw the first one but after seeing this one I'm certainly not excited to see it; if I happen to see it on one day I may watch it to see if it's as bad as this sequel).

I am completely serious, and I don't count the original Star Wars films, because they were planned from the early stages as a series. I cannot think of a single sequel that has ever surpassed the original. Everyone always says The Godfather 2, but I haven't watched those closely.
shareI may have to agree to an extent; most sequels aren't better or really even close to the original. There are however good sequels: Rocky movies, Die Hards, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Rambo's, etc - I could go on but there are a few that may be better than the original, are darn close, or it's up to personal preference. The Friday The 13th series (I'm a huge fan of Jason so I definitely prefer others over the original; actually I rarely ever watch the original compared to the others in the series). Terminator 2 is pretty much equally as good as the original - eye of the beholder there. So some sequels are worthy to the original but I agree you really never see them besting the original. Nothing beats the original.

Magnum Force was better than Dirty Harry.
Star Trek 2 was the best of those Star Trek movies.

ZOMBIE 5: KILLING BIRDS. Boring, lame, just plain terrible. Doesn't deserve to be labeled as part of the series, especially since Zombi 2 and Zombi 3 are awesome.
Halloween III isn't really a sequel, it's set in a completely different universe to the original and Halloween II.

Because John Carpenter the director of the first one and producer of the first three had an idea to end the myers timeline there and make a different halloween themed story each year but when his first attempt (Halloween III: Season of the Witch) flopped he decided to bring back the Michael Myers and Sam Loomis timeline.
shareI think Saw II was just as good as III. III was nearly worse because of the unnecessary in-zoom of Jigsaw's head being cut, I mean, seriously, WTF was that?!
Though when I come to Saw V (still haven't seen IV), I can nearly guess it will be a bit worse than the earlier ones.

shareOk, I'll go out on a limb here. Dawn of the Dead was a case of the sequel bettering the original. However I would hesitate to call it an actual sequel. It takes place in the same universe but doesn't really carry on the story from NOTLD. Kind of hard when Romero killed everybody off.

Almost all sequels suck, the only ones I really like are Aliens and Terminator 2. James Cameron seems to be the only guy who gets sequels correct.
My vote is related to him: Alien 3. Alien 3 has got to be the absolute worst movie ever made. This is Shakespeare compared to Alien 3. The plotholes here are mere mouseholes compared to the Death-Star sized ones in Alien 3. Godawful, nonsensical plot, no action, no good characters, no *beep* THOUGHT whatsoever, and they killed off most of the cast which makes the huge victory at the end of Aliens seem pointless. At least with this piece of garbage you can separate it from the good movies, but no, Alien 3 is considered canon. Should never have been made.
