What did you like about Jaws 4

yes jaws 4 sucks we all know that, but there are a few things that they do get right.

what did you actually like about Jaws 4??

Personally,

The Score is fantastic.

Jake's attack is well handled, for the most part. I like how it goes silent and all you can hear is the rhythmic heartbeat and then Lance Guest's yell for him is effective as he watches his friend get dragged.

the banana Boat sequence people seem to like and isn't too bad.

Depsite here not being there to "witness certain scenes" i actually like the flashback material especially when she is heading for the shark to impale it and it shows Brody from Jaws 1. Almost like she is channeling her husband.

finally the Opening FROM The sharks POV is very creepy. and pretty much all the amity stuff at night is good.

What do other fans think.

Please no " i like when it ended"

seriusly, was there any sequence, techinal aspect, scene, shot, effect, acting moment, that you enjoyed in this movie.

Great, thundering musical score.

Amity in the winter.

Brody house in the winter.

"Old favorites" in Brody house, Mrs. Taft, Mrs. Kintner.

The late, charming Judith Barsi.

The truly, though brief, elegaic funeral.

The "killer log" floating in the harbor as the Brody-bearing ferry sails away.

The shark's enhanced throbbing deep heartbeat.

excellent,

the more discussions i have had on these boards, the more ive learned, that people didn't want to the action to leave amity at all.

Yeah, Amity is "home" for the audience - the Sea World deal in 3-D completely wrecked the franchise's Amity-ambience. For me, Jaws is an Amity story...

Nice to see you on this board bastasch! Good chats on The Exorcist/Exorcist III board!

Here's what I liked about Jaws The Revenge (Probably listed these already):

- The opening attack at night in Amity was creepy and disturbing.
- The acting from most of the cast was actually good
- The cinematography
- The name of the boat Neptune's Folly
- The idea of having a heart monitor was great
- The terrific score!
- Some of the underwater chase scene was good
- The birthday dance with Michael and Ellen

Thanks 5535... I like your list of "good stuff" in this movie.

Thanks man!

It's a funny movie, because in many ways it's bad, but there are some good parts to it, and you can tell that the studio and director were trying to make a decent movie. It's not until the last 15 minutes where the movie really falls apart for me.

Definitely the old familiar faces in Amity. There must be at least a dozen of the locals from the first (and second) movie to appear in this one. Really adds a great touch to the movie.

I like when Mrs. Kintner came to the house. I kept thinking she looked familiar and something she said jogged my memory. I was already choked up at seeing the picture of Chief Brody and this just made me cry.

In an interview taken some time before his death at 89, director Joseph Sargent (a capable director who made the original The Taking of Pelham 123 and the superb Kojak pilot The Marcus Nelson Murders, and won several Emmys) said that it only occurred to him and the cast well into production how preposterous the idea of a shark plotting revenge against humans was (never mind that all previous sharks were killed!). That idea alone sinks the movie. But apart from the surprisingly amateurish fx and the woeful ending, there are some nice, suspenseful scenes, a great score by the late Michael Small (something everybody around here seems to agree with) and generally good cinematography. This film was made by experienced, talented people. So the whole blame must be put at the door of the screenwriter.

I think what I enjoyed most about this movie was the ending. There is more than one version floating around for some reason but the one I am thinking of is the shark getting nailed with the boat and sinking. Yes, it looks terrible but I still found it to be a satisfying conclusion. It is a shame that it was forsaken in favor of the "exploding shark" thing... Like WTH.

I liked the NES video game that this film inspired. I'd be picking up conchs from the seabed to this day if I still had a working NES console.

I liked the bizarre cast, none of whom had ever worked together prior to this film to my knowledge. Lance Guest was the perfect choice to play an older Michael, Mario van Peebles' accent was atrocious yet endearing, Michael Caine is, well, Michael Caine, and apart from her hair, Lorraine Gary really got to stretch her legs in this picture.

This sequel gets a lot of hate (for right or wrong) but I for one like it a lot more than the plodding/boring Jaws 3D and yes, I find it entertaining in spite of the ridiculousness of its central plot. If the script had a few more passes, it think it would have turned out better. I remember seeing an E.T. promo for the movie when they visited the set in February of '87. They were still in production, shooting this movie with a mid July release date already imposed by the studio. So it was definitely rushed. Anyway, here's what I like about Jaws:The Revenge

* The POV opening shot of the shark swimming above and below Amity harbor. Great intro!
* The reworking of the opening theme...great job by composer Michael Small.
* Sean's death was tough to watch...very intense.
* There was a strong focus on the Brody family and their bond. I LIKE these characters.
* The gorgeous cinematography and Bahama locations
* Great to revisit Amity! Wish we had stayed there a little longer.
* Banana boat scene was suspenseful and well choreographed.
* Cameos by Mrs. Kintner and Mrs. Taft. Only they spelled the name wrong in the credits and listed her as Mrs. Kitner.
* The deep, pulsing sound of the shark's heartbeat signaling his presence.
* The entire score was great. Nice use of the Jaws themes.
* Lorraine Gary's acting was heartfelt and touching. I felt her grief especially when Michael is swinging Thea on the ferry and Ellen is crying over Sean's death. I wanted to hug and comfort her ; )
* Jake's death was eerily silent, except for the music cues and Michael's yell.
* The original theatrical ending. Although its choppy editing, I like the impaling, the boat masts collapsing, the bow sprint breaking off with the shark hearing his heartbeat fade out. Its leagues above the blowing up ending that makes zero sense.

What I HATE about Jaws: The Revenge

* The fact that Universal has yet to give us a proper blu-ray release with the original theatrical ending. It's long overdue, along with Jaws 2 and 3D, even though 3D is inferior to Revenge IMHO.

Michael Caine and the begging shark POV. Seeing the Amity people too. The airplane scenes were kind of cool too.
