why R?

WHY IS THIS MOVIE RATED R?

reply

There is cursing in the movie, drinking of alcohol, smoking, and violence in the movie. That is why it is rated R.

I see this happens on almost every board that I go to. People always questions about the ratings of a movie. I do not know why they do that and I guess it must be due to the kind of movies that they make now. The rating system is either G, PG, PG-13, and less R rated movies.

A lot of these movie companies now want to squeeze in the younger audiences to watch movies.

Let's not forget the firing squad scene during Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World." On TV, that scene was always cut.

That is why I do not care to watch films on TV anymore because they sometimes cut out the best part of the movie when shown on TV.

Watching this movie on TV was actually fun, because you knew what the real dialouge was, and it was interesting to see what it was replaced with.

"You shut your FILTHY hole!"
"Captain Hawk sucks the sweat off a dead man's BACK."
"That guy is as boring as whale SNOT."

That is what always cracks me up about watching movies on TV. I always know what the actor said in the film and it is hilarious to hear the voice over. LOL

They said "*beep*" too many times. To avoid an "R" rating by the MPAA, a movie must only say the "F-word" one time. *beep* also has it's limits.

Lots of coarse language, some intense violence (the bombing scene, and the Wonderful World montage), sexual references, and nudity

I'm surprised you got so many replies--some rather lengthy. The film qualifies as R-rated based simply on the MPAA's definition, which many apparently have forgotten:

R – Restricted
Under 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian. This movie contains some adult material and parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking the young children to watch them.
Such films may contain intense violence and suggestive material, tough language and horror, crude sexual content, sexually-oriented nudity and/or hard drug use.
