Personally I'd go with Jefferson. His isms with Al were just classic. I loved how we insulted Marcy behind her back, but turned into an instant coward when she was around. I loved the 'Yes Ma'am' t-shirt.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Steve, I just thought Jefferson was better. I'm glad they went in a totally fpdifferent direction when they cast him and he just wasn't another Steve

shareThe show was a tad funnier with Steve. David Garrison, like Ed O'Neill, had a way of delivering his lines that made you laugh out loud. With Jefferson, the show didn't have as fresh of humor as during the Steve years. But Ted McGinley was good. He actually came up with the idea of Jefferson laughing at Marcy behind her back when Al makes fun of her. That was pretty clever. David Garrison did better acting, but I think that Ted McGinley ad-libbed better on the show.
sharei'm shocked at the result here, i thought the clear pick for most all was steve, jefferson was a surprisingly well replacement but i always got the impression he didn't get a fair reception, he had some amazing parts like at the gas station when marcy stops him from talking, and cheering on al until marcy turns her head at him, i will always say steve though because he is synonymous with the early (greatest) years of the show, i just saw the episode where steve lost his job after giving al a bad loan for the shoe line, i never made that connection to steve's departure in progress before, so that means soon steve will leave the show, you can already start to see a bit of the goofy things starting on the show now, i think the actor playing steve left just in time, from his departure the series just continue to degenerate until the nearly unwatchable last seasons, soon the cast won't be able to enter the door without interruption for cheering, the roles turning into cartoon like figures... steve's replacement just made his first appearance in a christmas episode. well there are still a few fairly good moments of the series to come, by 1993 it gets pretty bad though.
