Is this Mann's best film?
It's certainly my favourite Mann film, but is it his best? What do fans think?
"Fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe."

No, that would be Thief.
shareI can't pick just one "best" film of MM's...for me, these are his best, interchangably:
Thief
Manhunter
Last Of The Mohicans

Absolutely yes. And the confrontation with The Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon is quite offensive. This is a work of art, imho.
shareManhunter is probably Mann's most artistic film to date and so I think it has a lot of appeal to a niche audience within his general fanbase, that being those who are into his understanding of the importance of visuals, particularly location, colour and architecture and the way he shoots them.
shareManhunter is probably Mann's most artistic film to date and so I think it has a lot of appeal to a niche audience within his general fanbaseWhilst I agree that the aesthetics in the film were high and contribute to its overall appeal, I think Manhunter has far more to offer than these alone. Part of the appeal of the film is the characterisations that offer a more mature and complex view of a serial killer and an FBI investigator. It is the meshing of the characters, story, visuals/set design and music that creates an intoxicating film.
Why do you refuse to remember me?share

YES Michael Mann is my favourite director and Manhunter is his masterpiece imo, and is one of my favourite films, it really bothers me the lack of attention it gets. It's by far the best Hannibal film.
shareHeat is my favorite Michael Mann film, but Manhunter is definitely up there.
