But was roy really gay?
Maybe roy really was gay , but didnt know how to express it. I wonder why he was so angry.

I yam what I yam.
Sounds like wistful thinking on your part MsBonner.
What kind of straight guy kills the woman his friend is losing his virginity to? Whether he had no respect for her is one thing... what he displayed was a insanely jealous homicidal rage. Was he jealous of the woman or of his friend? Considering he killed the woman by shaking her until her neck snapped, im guessing his jealousy was mostly directed at her. Its possible he felt jealousy towards Bo for his "normal" hetero orientation and the fact he was losing his virginity- and transferred this to the woman. I also believe some of his anger in general comes from knowing he is a homosexual.

"I never saw anything in the film to suggest that. It seems fairly clear that Roy is an outsider of our general society. He doesn't fit in and that society is more than happy to shun him for it. This is where his rage stems from. I got no sense or vibe that Roy was repressing any homosexual feelings of any kind."
What about the murder of the gay guy? The gay guy is obviously an outsider of sorts, does not represent general society, and did not treat Roy badly... IIRC Roy initiated contact by taking his shirt off, and possibly walking up to the gay guy, I think they embraced IIRC, then Roy starts attacking him.
Why take his shirt off, in front of a homo, in a fairly intimate setting?
Do you think its possible his unacceptable gay feelings were turned into violence in that scene?

Why did he take his shirt off and kind of embrace the gay guy?
I think it was intentionally ambiguous, to make the story more interesting. I think the script writer did plan for there to be some question in some of the viewers minds.
But you make a good point about him being an outsider at the gay bar as well. No question he was an outsider in general and that was a big factor in his hostility.

Just curious, are you a female or gay male?
[deleted]
The reason I asked is its possible that a female who is attracted to the character of Roy would not want to see him as gay. One of the earlier female posters came off like that.
In hindsight, I guess a gay male who found Roy attractive would be more likely to see him as gay, not straight- as opposed to a straight female.
what about after they leave the beach and the girls attack them while they are driving away, she calls them queers (maybe something worse)
roy gets really pissed about that and even brings it up later when they are at the tarpits

There were subtle hints in the movie that Roy could be gay, but there was plenty to indicate that he went berserk on women because he hated them. They rejected and emasculated him throughout the movie--even his own mother rejected him.
The only person who was sexually interested in Roy was another man.

yeah plus, he was built, which most people are not. so iam sure he would get some chicks..
shareWho was the actor who played the detective who called the gay couple a "fag"? I saw him in the movie "Ghost Warrior" tonight.
shareI don’t think he was gay, just my opinion. He had a rage he couldn’t contain. Angry young men can cause some terrible trouble, he seemed to be seeking victims.
Some guys just vent by hurting or killing people.
He needed to be locked up and counseled for years or simply shot, either way really…
I don’t think so, he hardly expresses interest in any sort of sexuality.
He just came off as a psycho killer, an angry guy that wanted to harm people.
