So...why was this not a hit?

While this movie was no masterpiece, it is a step better than your average action movie so the question remains, why was this not a hit at the box office?

My answer...horrible title.

The guy that played Remo Williams wasn't that good an actor and the idea of people being able to literally walk on water was, how do you say, "strange"(unless we are talking about Jesus, of course).

reply

Yeah, I get having an ordinary guy do extraordinary things, but levitating and walking on water shouldn't be one of them.

Punching through a board from one inch away has been used in a lot of movies, for example.

The trailers were terrible. I remember them and, even as a kid, they looked schlocky and like a terrible James Bond/whatever spy movie ripoff.
Once I watched it in the 90's, I became a huge fan. I'm watching again now for probably the 10th time. It keeps getting better.

I see "Fred Ward" in the credits & my mind goes to "Fred Willard".

Ikr.. this movie is freaking awesome. Way too underrated. You're right about the title, though. I much prefer the UK title 'Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous'

reply

The title for the UK release was Remo: Unamed and Dangerous, much better.

I remember seeing this at the theater among a crowd of people eating the wonderful food that is served at movie theaters.

The script takes great pains to emphasize that most of what Americans eat is pure garbage. Is this a memory people will want to take away from the theater after having indulged in the offerings from the concession stands?

(Disclaimer: I didn't have anything to eat that night!)
