People Thought I Was Crazy!!

I was sitting around with friends one night and my friend was talking about someone having long hair but made the stupid comment they had "long ass hair" for some reason this triggered my memory of this movie. I asked my friends if they remembered a movie about kids wanting to grow hair and came up with a peanut butter mix and then they put it in some strange places if you know what I mean. I said the movie had other story lines but that one stuck out. They all looked at me like I was crazy. Finally after an hour of searching I found it here. I am not obviously alone. I was probably 6 or 7 when I saw this movie. I would have been 5 in 1985 so I really don't think I would have seen in when I was 5. I would love to see it again and show them I was right.

Ditto.. I thought I dreamed this movie or something... glad I wasn't the only one!

The same thing happened to me. My husband thought I was making this up until I found it here to show him. But I have another movie I can't recall, from about the same time. Can anyone help me? All I remember about it is a scene where a shop owner tells a kid how to grow square goldfish, by lining the tank with underwater scenes so they think they're in a river and can grow bigger, until they fill the tank and take its shape. I know it sounds stupid but I swear I'm not making it up. I think the movie had something to do with chickens too.

I also thought I had dreamed this movie. But then I met a guy who had also seen it, so we could feel crazy and scarred together (but at least I knew I didn't make it up). I think this movie seriously scarred me as a child. There are huge parts of it I cannot remember, and I think the reason is because it terrified me. Sometimes just thinking about it puts me in cold sweats.

Another one with the same experience. Born in 1980. I think we taped this movie off TV. I vividly remember certain scenes from it, like when they're gathering dead flies for the PB solution.

I swear i thought I dreamed this movie up because nobody had ever heard of it. and when you try to describe the plot you sound like a crazy person.

were they doing psychological experiments on us in the 80s or something? Think about those weird movies we watching - the Peanut Butter Solution, Flight of the Navigator, the Neverending Story, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Short Circuit...those were all WEIRD movies.

reply

Yeah but what's the common denominator in all those films? Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Star Wars and E.T. pretty much paved the way for family oriented sci-fi/fantasy films and the flood gates opened in the early to mid 80's. What a glorious time it was.

We're your friends, we're not like the others man, really

Don't forget Raiders of the Lost Arc. It paved the way for adventure films like Goonies.

I'm going to sleep so much better tonight. I honestly thought that I had imagined this whole movie (saw it when I was 6 or 7). No one ever knew what I talking about so I stopped telling people about it and my parents convinced me that I had just "dreamed" this movie. At a party tonight, I walked into the middle of a conversation between some friends, one whom was unknowingly describing "The Peanut Butter Solution" talking about "the kid who ate peanut butter that made his hair grow" and the other who was poking fun at her for this imaginary film. When I told her that I had memories had of that exact same film, there was a moment where the planets aligned and all was right in the world. She called me an hour after the party with the news that she found it on this site. "The Peanut Butter Solution." One of the greatest mysteries of my childhood has been solved. God bless IMDB.

It was definitely not a dream.

My dad actually rented this movie in the late '80's from a now closed mom-and-pop movie rental place for me and my brother. We must have watched it 30 times. And then we never returned the movie to the store!! I think my parents still had the VHS until the late 1990s when they threw out a bunch of stuff (including old VHS tapes) after my brother and I moved out.

And now when I try explaining the movie to my husband, he looks at me as though I am insane! I wish I had the VHS still to defend my sanity. (Now, I can just show him this page.)

The same thing happened to me last week. I was sitting with my friends and for some reason i thought of this movie and nobody had heard of it. I can barely remember watching it because I was so young but I'm happy to see that it actually exists and I wasn't making up memories.

Maybe it´s the movie "the Pagemaster" with this little boy from home alone. I´ve never actually seen this film, but it´s the only film that came into my mind.

That makes me think of "Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller"

Does anyone here remember this crazy freaky television series in mid-80's called the 3rd eye...gave me nightmares....btw was born in 1980

I have 2 new ones that perhaps could give all of us some added closure...

I actually get goosebumps even describing them....My babysitter would always leave weird movies on that we would watch in the early 80s (i was born in '79)

#1 No clue what the movie was about but I think it involved an insane asylum or hospital and I have this horrible memory of an older man running down a long hallway chanting/screaming and throwing what i remember to be either birdhouses or some wooden objects at a helpless woman who is trying to escape from him....anyone remember that?

#2 I remember watching a preview in a movie theater where a mean woman who seemed to be these kids' babysitter or nanny was screaming at them to get in the car. Once the kids get in the car the boy leans forward towards the front seat on the driver side and sees a hole in the back of the neck of the lady/nanny/babysitter driving and then the camera like gets pulled into this alternate universe inside the ladies neck...like she was some demon. I remember a house after that being split in two....I thought for a while this could have been poltergeist but this lady was not in it. She had on like a nurses type hat with black rimmed glasses...sinister looking. All I saw was this preview and it messed me up pretty good...no idea what movie I was actually there to see that day:-)

Am I crazy? This freak anyone else out? I am 29 this year and it would be nice to figure out what these movies are!

I was talking to a friend about Maniac Mansion (anyone remember that? The game, not the movie) and for some reason this movie popped into my head. I have no idea why, I haven't seen it since it came out. Anyway, I couldn't remember the name and I started describing it to her. Much to my joy, she knew the movie and filled the parts I couldn't remember. When I went home, I asked my roommate about it and she knew it too! I'm surprised that so many people know this movie. Could you imagine it being made today and put on the Family Channel?

Logan: F.Y.I.? If cuddling is the best part, he didn't do it right.

I have the Peanut Butter Solution on VHS. The audio is not great but you can still watch it, and yes, I have within the last two years. As a child this movie scared me to death (Born in 85) and I actually gained a fear of bald people (therefore couldn't watch NBA games...) I love this movie and have been searching for it on DVD for a while now. My older sister has even searched for me and we aren't having any luck. If anyone EVER hears anything it would be great to know!

You guys are awesome. I thought I was all alone. Wonder what we all have in common? I remembered the part with the sugar (salt?) trail and the haunted house with a ladder. Tonight, I found another movie called The Quest (aka Frog Dreaming..aka Go Kids) from the same era, and it triggered off this movie in my brain. So, now I have The Quest downloading and this movie is on Google video.. God, I love internet.

Just looking through the thread and I saw this comment:

3) The last one I probably remember the best, but still not too well...something about some kids, brothers and sisters, who live somewhere rural or woodsy, and get transported to some 'magical land', or whatever. The thing that sticks out though is this weird, huge floating head they encounter there, who like swallows people or something and spits them back out...in a good way? If it helps, I for some reason remember the ball creature/whatever kind of looking like a bloated version of Chet as a alien in 'Weird Science'.

This reminds me of a movie, and I have very vague memories. (Could be an entirely different movie). Children find a leprechaun's pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, they steal it???? They get sent to a "fantasy land" where everything seems great but is sinister underneath. At some point you see people falling into this big hole, kind of reminds me of the monster in the sand from Star Wars, and when they are spit out they come out as butterflies and fairies and other "fantastic" things. The kids don't want to go in there but they are forcing them too. Somehow I think they get the gold back to the leprechaun and they get to go home.

Am I dreaming this movie up or has someone else seen it? I may be crazy, I think I was quite young when I saw this.
