More old children's Sci-Fi (I can't remember)

This is a movie I used to love and had completely forgotten about until I stumbled upon it today. Anybody else know of any obscure movies like this I can't seem to remember. Some I've recently rented for my son: Flight of the navigator, Innerspace, the last starfighter.

reply

I remember a similar film where a boy looked at the sun for too long, became blind then had superpowers. Maybe its the same film you're talking about, it was years ago!

Anyway, I'd like to add a cartoon movie to the list if I may.....

Starchaser, the legend of Orin! Classic film !

"Its the rebels Sir.... They're here, And they've brought a flag!" Eddie Izzard.

Surprised no one (I think) mentioned The Last Starfighter... If you like Explorers you'll love TLS.

Plus, there's an episode of the TV show Amazing Stories that has a plot very similar to Explorers. The kid who played Albert on Little house on the prairie is in it... In this one the Aliens come to earth and everything they know about us is from picking up TV signals.

"Use the Force, Fluke!"

reply

Do you mean "Flight The Navigator"?

reply

No, The Last Starfighter is a far superior film to Flight of the Navigator, even though Navigator was a fun film.

The Last Starfighter was simply fantastic and I really was surprised to not see it on the list of every other poster, or maybe even two-thirds of them. It is that much of a classic 80s film, that it needs to be mentioned at least as often as Goonies is on these lists.

The story was fun, the special effects are still used as a reference in CGI classes (this and Tron were the first two films that ever used full frame CGI) since for the time they were simply incredible, and the score was fantastic.

They keep talking about making a sequel to the film, and even as an adult I would be in line to see that.

This thread kick ass.

I spent hours going through some of the recommendation's & revisiting these old classic 80's movies that I seen (& forgot) when I was a kid.

No one seems to have mentioned:

-Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)

A classic kids flick & one of the best "Ernest" movies!

reply

I know this is a long shot because so many post here questions about old movies they don't remember the name but...

Could anyone tell me the name of a move (not really sci fi but more like fiction and drama) where a bunch of kids get stranded on an island and they form tribes and kill each other.. ?

And another movie.. but i have less info on this one.. It's about a problematic kid who does all types of vandalisms and his mother so fed up with him that in the end the kid burns his home all down. (ok, this one nor sci fi nor fiction sorry :p)

ok i hope someone out there can tell me a hint. i would appreciate a lot!

reply

Don't know what the second film could be, but the first sounds like LORD OF THE FLIES, which was remade and shown in theatres in 1990.

reply

thanks for replying! I guess I'll never find out about the second one in my life :p

cheers from portugal.

You know, ludovico 88, you may be remembering more than one film; perhaps two films that were similar to each other..? I would guess that it could be PROBLEM CHILD, from 1990, but I don't recall a house burning down in it... Anyways, good luck searching!

Great thread guys, a lot of good memories resurected. Most of the ones I can think of are on the list already but perhaps someone can help me locate another one I've been looking for.

Unfortuantely, I don't have much detail outside of a few vague memories. One thing I can remember is towards the end of the movie there is a fight on an island which sinks when a drop of blood hits the ground. It was a quirky adventure/comedy (slapstick type) with swordfights and possibly a pirate theme around the mid-late 80's.

Here are some from my childhood that I don't think have been mentioned:

The Dungeonmaster
Leonard Part 6
The Keep
Krull
The Cat From Outer Space
Escape to Witch Mountain
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Dune
UHF
The Burbs
Innerspace

I can't believe that EVERYONE forgot "the last starfighter" 1984 video-game based classic hero's journey account of a misunderstood youth who saves his galaxy as well as the alternate universe where he found he houses secret powers of survival and manhood etc. etc. the imdb page is found here

I am amazed that in all those posts about 80's sci-fi flicks not one of you cats mentioned this flick.. tisk tisk..
