"It's gonna rain on your head!!"

Any line by Adolph Ceasar. He's my favorite character in the movie, even though he looks too young to be Danny Glover's father.

My favourite comes from the dinner table scene at the end,

Old Mr: "You can't speak to my boy like that!"

Celie: "Your boy? Maybe if he hadn't been 'your boy' he might have made someone a halfway decent man."

reply

Juke Joint man - "Gal, I'll drink your bath water."

When Celiee makes that massive brunch for Shug. I sometimes try to recreate the menu, but it's too much food for one meal. And she should've included some fruit.

I also like when Celiee first moves in with Mister and starts cleaning-straightening the house up.

Its the punch line Shug Avery belts out when she dances, holds her skirt and lunges ahead, i dont remember or care for the line, it was just that scence

even monkeys fall from trees

"It's time for me to get out into creation and your dead body is just the welcome mat I need."

I just watched Color Purple earlier tonight since I still had it recorded on an vhs recording tape. I agree the movie has some funny parts but there are some parts that even make me want to cry LOL.

The ending where Ceily meets her daughter and son that makes me almost want to cry especially when the son starst talking to her in half english and half African.

I have a question about her son and daughter. What made them think about going through that one ritual thing with the weird african blade that was told in the letter flashback? Just something to do for a rite of passage thing to fit in with the african natives or something?

reply

"You gon buy something or naht gal?"
"What sha doin that fo'?" "Ya sister's thinkin about marryin!"
"It's gon rain on yo head"

Too many to just love one. lol

reply

yeah back then when I was a little kid when this movie came out for VHS tape rental and on HBO I thought it was hilarious when the little boy said to Harpo that it was gonna rain on his head

"I'm poor, black, I might even be ugly, but dear God, I'm here. I'm here." Wonderful line. Basically, it's her whole soul in those words. And she finally stands up for herself.

Most of my favourite lines have already been mentioned, but one line I love is: "You aint nothing but a heffa". That line cracks me up. And then Sofia's response to it is just as hilarious.
