How come David didn't start re-<Spoiler>ating on the Genesis planet surface after he was <spoilered>?

Spock died on the Enterprise due to radiation exposure in the warp core. He was then fired off in that sleek sunglasses case down on to the Genesis planet.

However that was long AFTER the genesis device had been detonated nowhere near the planet. Yet somehow his body started regenerating there anyway.

Therefore should we not also have expected to see David regenerating as well after he got the old heave ho?

They didn’t need his character for Star Trek IV.

I know that is the cynical answer but it is the correct one. He was basically a red shirt.

LOL, perfect answer.

Even if that was the case what could kirk do.? Wait for David to get regenerated? Bit difficult as the planet was in the process of destroying itself, and he only just got away with Spock.

reply

What he could have done was stick David in a deep freeze and park his popsicle carcass in orbit somewhere and hope Star Fleet tried another Genesis test.

But shouldn't he already have regenerated into baby? That's how it worked with Spock and the planet - which was linked to the aging process - was speeding up in its process, so it should have been going faster for him anyway.

reply

I guess it only worked in the beginning stages of the planet when Spock 'soft landed' there

In that case maybe Khan was somehow integrated into the DNA of the planet (maybe part of the reason it was so unstable and going mad and trying to kill everyone!)

reply

Well it's ironic really since the planet was unstable due to David's corner cutting in the lab. Therefore if he'd only been a bit more professional, the planet would haven't have been falling apart so quickly and he'd have had more time to regenerate!

reply

Spock's body regenerated in the planet's early phases when there still the Genesis wave which may have faded away over time.
