Which Firgure Was Your Holy Grail?

When I was a kid, I always wanted but could never find: Duke or the Crimson Twins.

I'm not saying I had all the others, but those were the ones that I pined over.

I did send away for Major Bludd and I was proud of collecting all three original dreadnoks, but the aforementioned "white whales" always escaped me.

I had the same problem, never could get my hands on the tomax and xamot figures, I always wanted those two sooooo bad, I also always wanted the crimson guards, loved those red uniforms they wore, and I have to throw zartan in as another figure I always wanted, but as an adult collector I can finally say I own all those figures.

but out of all the figures I had as a kid, snake eyes with timber and storm shadow were my all time favorites.

Yea, I wanted the crimson guards as well. I finally got my hands on the python patrol version, but that just wasn't the same.

Congrats on completing your set!

As an adult collector I often have trouble finding a particular figure in each wave but I don't ever remember having trouble finding them as a kid. I got $5.00 a week for my allowance which would just cover two G.I. JOE or STAR WARS figures w/tax and by the time my childhood was over I think I had every figure I ever wanted... But I never did own Dusty, which is odd because he's a pretty cool figure. Maybe I had trouble finding him.

sadly I got out of gi joe by the time the python patrol versions came out, but I am trying to add those to my collections, I thought it was really cool that gi joe rereleased some of their popular characters for people who might have missed them at the start of the toy line.

the slaughters marauders line was cool because it added spirit, and gi joe tiger force gave you a chance to buy other good guys.

Funny, I never had a big collection, but Duke and the Crimson Twins were some of the figures I did have, and I don't recall having any trouble getting them (sorry, not trying to rub it in, ha). Might have had 2 Dukes actually, between me and my brother ... Duke was mail order, if I'm correct he arrived in a plastic bag. I'm thinking we ordered him via Consumers (remember that place?) but I could be wrong on the details ...

Crimson Twins were cool because the package had these mirrors on the sides so you see them in reverse (probably not explaining it well). I was sold right away. I bought them at a hobby store and I still remember the day, because I was walking around the plaza barefoot (yeah I was a odd kid). Shortly after spending my allowance on them, I was screwing around with the automatic doors at the grocery store down the hall and got my foot caught in the door when it finally malfunctioned, ha. The things we remember when we're older.

Never had Major Blood but my brother did. His collection was bigger and more well kept than mine. I did have a Bazooka figure which I thought was the coolest, but sadly I brought him to school the next day, all accessories in tact, but the figure never made it home.

I also had Sgt Slaughter through mail order, being the WWF freak I was back then, Slaughter was a must have ... But to answer your Holy Grail question (finally, ha sorry I ramble when I get nostalgic), the one I always wanted as a kid and never got was that William 'Refrigerator' Perry mail order figure. For my money at the time, 'Fridge' had the coolest weapon of all, it was a football attached to a chain. Had I got him, and had I not lost Bazooka in a day and a half, no doubt I'd have made them a tag-team and they'd have gone undefeated for the rest of my childhood (because really, 9 times out of 10 I'd lose their accessories and these figures would wind up in massive battle royals, rather than see any real combat =)

I had the Fridge, Sgt. Slaughter, Major Blood, Hooded Cobra Commander.

I wanted the metallic super soldier so much, but never got it.

My grail, was Storm Shadow- not because I never owned it, but because I lost it.

I thought it was behind my chest of drawers for the longest time.

I remember finding it there once, but lost track of it again. And as long as those drawers were there, which wasn't very long in retrospect, I thought Storm Shadow was there, somewhere.

Sadly, he was never replaced.

Destro was my holy grail. I could never find the original one with the silver head. I got one later when they gave him a gold head, but I could never find the original silver one.

Vehicle I wanted the most was the original HAVOC. I just thought the two parts with the flying hovercar was the coolest thing. I never could find it the original version but when they did the all silver reissue of it I was able to get it.

The one I cherish most is Shipwreck because he was my very first. My dad didn't want me to have any G.I. Joe's but that was the first one I got from them so that was really important.

For me in England it was Cobra Commander I couldn't find him in any of the shops.

Collecting G.I. Joes in the early 80's was all my cousins and i did.We would buy and trade with kids from school and around the neighberhood.I had some really good ones that i wish I stil had.I had original cobra commander,hooded commander,fridge,OG snake eyes with timberwolve,OG storm shadow with one arm{got in trade}OG crimson twins in original packaging and some other good ones.My holy grail would have to be the OG Hawk and Duke never did see them in stores or maybe started collecting a year or so late.

I must have been really spoiled or really lucky...cuz I had them all I think. Only thing I never had that I always always always wanted was the aircraft carrier. I begged Santa, I begged my parents, heck I even asked neighbors and friends as a birthday gift. Lol

Honestly, I never had any issues getting the figures.

~~~~~~Do or do not. There is no try.~~~~~~
I don't know if I've even see a Duke figure in person let alone had one.
I sent away for and early release of Duke when I was a kid. Not sure if I ever saw one in a store but then I probably wasn't looking since I already had him. I'm not sure why anyone had trouble finding the Crimson Twins. The KayBee Toy Store in my home town always had tons of them.
