Victory Celebration or Yub Nub?

I grew up with the 2004 editions, with the Victory Celebration song at the end, as opposed to Yub Nub. I vastly prefer the Victory Celebration, I think it's one of Williams' best works, and a perfect way to end the trilogy.

What are your thoughts on the two? Which do you prefer?

reply

Victory Celebration, all the way. It just feels more appropriate as the victory song for BOTH the Rebel Alliance and the Ewok race.

VC is a more moving piece.

I don't know when I last saw the original version, so, tough to compare for me. On the CD, is the "Ewok Feast" the original ending/celebration?

One other question about the special edition - Did I hear Jar Jar Binks shouting "Wesa freeee!"?

The subtitles show "Wasa freee!" which is every bit as grating. As said before, Victory Celebration was gratuitous and a forced effort to connect OT with PT. It yanked us away from the story to watch Lucas do-his-thing.

Yub Nub was kind of annoying at the time but was undeniably catchy and appropriate to the movie. Like all the original content, Yub Nub is better.

Agreed. CouldnĀ“t have said it better myself.

The original Special Edition (1997) did not have the Naboo shoot. That was added for the 2004 DVD edition.

That scene is such a lame way of ending the trilogy that I don't really care, I like both songs.

reply

I liked the Celebration scenes as well, especially the scene on Coruscant as it showed the scope of the victory of the Battle of Endor. Nothing can make up for Han shooting first though...absolutely nothing.

Yub Nub. It's intimacy fits the overall theme of the movie. PLus in the original theatrical ending, Luke and Leia's hug is longer.

I know! Actually, the increased cutting to the minor characters annoyed me more than the music change. Nothing against Wedge Antilles, but in this moment I wanted the main characters!
