Worst Bond film

Unoriginal story. Connery well past his prime. Bad acting all around (aside from Basinger). Weak staging (it felt like a home video with expensive furniture half the time). Bad directing. Weak soundtrack, especially compared to John Barry. Lacks the fantasy elements of EON Bond films, but is also too campy to be taken seriously.

Unoriginal story.

It's based on Thunderball. Not meant to be original.

Connery well past his prime.

Roger Moore was older for his last three Bond-films.

Bad acting all around (aside from Basinger).

Not worse than any other Bond-film - good acting has never been a hallmark of Bond-movies, certainly not any of the Fleming-based ones. Sean's performance was easily on par with all his other Bond-films, neither better nor worse.

Weak staging (it felt like a home video with expensive furniture half the time).

Can't say I noticed.

Bad directing.

Worse than the other Bond-films up to that point?

Weak soundtrack, especially compared to John Barry.

Soundtrack is a bit of a hit and miss thing with the Bond films. Some have great soundtrack, some so-so, and some rubbish.

Lacks the fantasy elements of EON Bond films

Doesn't. Perhaps they're not quite on the level of the most fantastical Bond-films, but not all EON Bond films were all that fantastical.

but is also too campy to be taken seriously.

Did you see any of the Roger Moore Bond films? Or Diamonds Are Forever, for crying out loud.

It seems like some people insist on "Never Say Never Again" being the worstest Bond film in the history of the universe ever, out of some sort of misguided loyalty to the franchise. Roger Moore, too, seems to hate this film purely because Sean Connery hated being in it. In particular he complained about the slapstick with Rowan Atkinson not being "Bond humour". But the slapstick with Jaws in Moonraker was? Or the pigeon looking twice after the amphibious gondola in the same movie? Or the Beach Boys scene in View to a Kill? Talk about wearing blinders.

This is better than all four Brosnan movies at the very least.

Skyfall (A total joke. The final Straw)
Quantum of Solace (Boring. Water supplies??!)
License To Kill (sub Miami Vice)

reply

Hey, Skyfall was great.

Quantum of Solace was boring, too long and utterly forgettable. The day after I saw the movie in the theatres I had forgotten most of it. However, I did find that it had improved significantly on second viewing, years later.

License to Kill was terrific, you sit back down in your seat.

Quantum of Solace is the shortest Bond film ever...

reply

Felt like the longest, though.

No. The worst Bond film by far is the original Casino Royals, written by Woody Allen.
