My father produced KRULL

Where were all of you KRULL fans in 1983? If KRULL had so many fans back then the movie would have made big money and there would BE A SEQUEL!! WHAT HAPPENED? I did get to hang out at Pinewood and watch lots of things being done. And the best part is, I actually have one of the original GLAIVES.

I was 8 years old and saw it at the drive in. I thought it was incredible. It was just such a fun movie to watch and so memorable. We went and watched it again the very next weekend. I'm going to watch it with my 8 year old son, who is sick and will be staying home, tomorrow in fact. That's why I came here, to find interesting things to watch for in the movie. I have another kid coming as well, and when he gets old enough, I'm going to watch it with him as well. Just the other day on Reddit (it's a social website) there was an entire discussion about Krull.

When this came out in Greece, I took my kid brother to see it at the cinema and he became obsesed with it. It was among the best of the many heroic films of the time and rather popular in my circle at least. It is a shame that it didn't have a better reception by the public. I hope that at the long run, it did produce some profit.

I was there and loved it. I was 9 years old when I went to my local small town cinema to see it, and haven't stopped loving it since. I've bought it on Vhs and now Dvd and can't wait for the Blu-ray whenever it gets a release.

My cinema was fairly well packed when I saw it in 83, so I grew up assuming it was a hit....because it should have been.

I saw it in theatres three times, each time sharing the experience with a larger group of friends. Please thank your father for me.

I'll answer your question, where were all us KRULL fans back in 1983? My answer is the INTERNET, which didn't exist back then to bring all KRULL fans together.

I speculate KRULL did not receive enough advertising nor were the critics talking up the movie to the public. I seemed to recall the critics being cool to the movie. I don't know why KRULL didn't do better at the box office. It was a thoroughly enjoyable science fiction fantasy movie to me at the time and I ended up in the following decades purchasing a VHS then later DVD copies. I still enjoy watching KRULL.

Another speculation of mine blames the public. Perhaps there wasn't enough blood and gore or graphic sex to satisfy that element of the movie going public. Lysette Anthony was only 16 years old at the time so any nudity and lovemaking scenes on her part were out of the question. Frankly, I don't feel KRULL needed blood and gore nor nudity and sex for that matter. But that's my opinion. I liked KRULL as it was.

I think we should just blame Return of the Jedi.

It seems I'm one of the few that was old enough and did see it @ the theater. Contrary to what some people have said I "vaguely" remember that it received more than enough advertising in my area it just wasn't a hit.
When I saw it @ the theater I was 12 @ the time and a HUGE Star Wars fans. I'm not sure if I compared the 2 but I remember leaving the theater extremely disappointed.
For whatever the reason I seem to like it better now then I did @ 13......go figure~

Can you tell me...Who made the glaive? how many were made? What was it made of and is it a weapon or just a prop?

Wow, man. Props to your dad for producin' what my own family universally agrees is a very underrated, misunderstood and overlooked classic. My family grew up watching it on Beta and I still can't think of a more exciting, imaginative, charming sci-fi/fantasy movie to this day.

Maybe I'm bias because it's a sentimental flick to me but I still haven't seen anything with as cool villains (slayers, the beast, the spider) or heroes (Rell, Ergo, etc.).

My guess is many of the fans making this a cult favorite weren't born yet. I , on the other hand was. I do remember reading about the film and even buying the Alan dean Foster novelisation of the movie. Unfortunately I didn't read the novel and I never got a chance to see the film. This was 1983 and if you missed it in the theaters you had to wait until it was released on cable and then regular television. There were no VHS recorders and Beta max was a luxury item for wealthy people. All the reasons above are probably why "Krull" fell through the cracks.
