What's the closest you've ever gotten to a celebrity?!

... Either emotionally, or proximity-wise...

... C'mon; spill the beans!!!!!!

That which is not yet, but ought to be, is more real than that which merely is.

the main one i remember was a not-so-famous guy but for sure the friendliest b/c he approached us at a Starbucks, Mr. Clint Howard (Ron's little bro). he was interested as to what movie we were watching as he overheard us talking about it! he was nice! i've seen many others and met a few living in LA...John Woo, Lou Diamond Phillips, Pat Morita, Mira Sorvino..the one i remember being the least friendly and just wanting to be left alone was the Roger Rabbit guy, Charles Fleisher, after a Laugh Factory nite..he pretty much brushed us off.

This IS intriguing...I've had several (actual) conversations with Dave Matthews. We are members of the same sports club and I worked there last summer. He would get coffee and just bum around the front desk chatting with his personal trainer/bodyguard. He's a splendidly nice guy.

One of my good friends here at school was just on America's Next Top Model. That count?

You don't see the irony with a thread like this in a forum about a movie about a stalker.

Um, yes I do... That's precisely why I started it.

At The White House (a popular sandwich shop)in Atlantic City, 2am, it was packed, a small, cramped, diner looking type place, signed celeb photoes on the walls with employees etc.

I was in line, backed up to let a waitress pass by, and stepped.....HARD....with heels.... on Jay Leno's foot as he was getting up from his table (where his wife was) to get napkins! He put his hands on my shoulders and I whipped around to apologize (and see who this guy was who was touching me).
He was very nice about it.

In NYC I walked by on the street at different times: Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon, Michelle Pfeiffer, George Clooney, KD Lang

At restaurants in NY saw: Liv Tyler, Joaquin Phoenix, Tony Bennet, Charlie Rose, Frank Whaley, Madonna, Howard Stern, BB King

In Vegas got propositioned by Steven Wright (that was wierd!), walked by Dennis Miller

The highlights: in my teens during the 80's met The Who due to a girlfriend who was in love w/ Roger Daltrey and talked our way in w/ the roadies and partying with The Greatful Dead after a show in Philadelphia!

A few...When I was a bellman at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale, the cast and crew of "The Flight of the Navigator" was staying there. There were only 2 of the cast that I spoke to at length: Veronica Cartwright, who was a class act. I spent a half hour talking to her about movies, different directors. She seemed pleased to discuss her trade intelligently as opposed to being fawned over. Also, the child star, Joey Cramer. He was kind of giving me some attitude for weeks. I'm not making this up...at one point, I jokingly got in his face and fake wrestled him to the ground in the lobby and we were rolling around for a minute before the horrified hotel manager sternly told me to stop. What's funny is that Joey had a big smile on his face. Someone was treating him like a kid and not a commodity.

Also Jaco Pastorious at a local record store. The most famous that no one probably is aware of...is my aunt,Judith Coplon. Look her up if you're curious.

When I went to Wimbledon (tennis tournament) I got autographs from Lindsay Davenport and Martina Navratilova.

I met Dick Cavett when he was doing Rocky Horror on Broadway and I told him "You make me laugh." to which he said thank you.

I met Artie Lange from Howard Stern's Show after a comedy show, he's one of the most down to earth guys.

Also, Matthew Broderick almost ran me over with his bike, he shouted for me to move and I did just in time.

just two days ago, while on a trip to NYC, I saw Mel Brooks at the Carnegie Deli, but I decided not to bother him. Celebrities hate it when people bug them when they're eating.

In a church i go to sometimes in NJ Joe Piscapo goes there sometimes. I shook his hand when we are supposed "peace be with you", catholic will know what I'm tlaking about. I saw NBAer Steve Francis in an airport recently. I was in the same restaraunt as the dude who says "lifestyles of the rich adn famous". I also was in the same restrant as ex-NBA player Jason Williams (the one who accidently shot his driver or somoething) a while ago (before that incident). I'm not *beep* being in the same bulding at sporting events, ore else the list would include Jay-z Beyonce, Marv alber, Ashton Kutcher, Michael jordan, all the Nets and yankees teams form the past 5 years...you knwo what i mean.

The first celebrity I ever met was Shania Twain. She was doing a promo thing at Kmart because they were sponsoring her tour. I went to the store, but they had already closed the line, even though she wasnt there, so I left and was walking out back to my car when I saw all these people in suits standing by the back door. They promptly told me to leave, so I just walked back around the corner. About 5 minutes later I heard a car pull up so I ran around the corner and was face to face with Shania for about 15 seconds until two cops grabbed me and ran with me for about a hundred feet.

The best celebrity I have met is "Weird Al" Yankovic. He is the nicest guy and takes time to learn your name and will remember it the next time he sees you. Ive met him 5 or 6 times and he's just super cool.

Also I have met Matthew Fox, Al Sharpton twice, George Carlin, Nelson Demille, Peter Jackson, Demi Morre and Parker Posey.

LOL... and I bet your dog didn't appreciate it as much as you did, either!

I bought water from Tyrese and his brother (long story), had Tyrese take a picture of me and then saw him a week later where they both actually seemed excited to see me again. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of his work.

I played blackjack with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes at a casino in Palm Springs. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of their work.

I had Bill Murray refuse to take a picture with me. Unfortunately, I'm a fan of his work.

I've also met:

Arnold Schwarzenegger
James Franco and James Spader on the same night
Michael Rooker
Colm Meaney and Mike Hagerty on the same day

All of these were just random. The only people I met in a place like Hollywood were Spader and Franco. Everyone else was just wandering around California.

I think that's it. I'll try and remember more.

Wow, bad run of luck, Bob! I'll be pulling for someone whose work you actually admire to be nice to you!

I work in an upper class restaurant in the San Jose Bay Area and I see celebrities from various fields. I've served food to the San Francisco 49ers (the local football team to the non-Americans reading this), Forest Whittaker, Damon Wayans, Jessica Simpson and Ludacris the rapper.

I got to meet Alison Mack from Smallville because her boyfriend is a friend of one of my art history teachers. She was just in the class and I said hi.

At a screening for Valkyrie, the guy who did the introduction was supposedly Bryan Singer, but I doubt the girl who said that was him. (and so does my friend)

I met the writer of the Thomas The Tank Engine books when I was young. I vaguely remember him singing my old, tattered, scribbled-on book.

A couple of weeks ago Ben E. King smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up! Was probably just grateful that someone under the age of 20 had attended one of his shows.

A few years ago When I was about 14/15 I had a conversation with Rachael Stevens (S Club 7). I noticed she was wearning no bra.

Nils Lofgren (Guitarist from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, used to be in Neil Young's Crazy Horse and had a notable solo career. Signed my Springsteen shirt so that was awesome).

Southside Johnny (frontman of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes)

Gary U.S. Bonds (singer from long ago. The Beatles were his support act during one of his UK tours).

Met quite a few more but not anyone worth mentioning (unless anyone is interested in hairdresser Nicky Clarke?)
