And in case anyone is wondering, I will admit to being one of those people who find The Motion Picture to be far more interesting than The Wrath of Khan.
The entire movie is just a set-up for Spock to have a dramatic, self-sacrificial death at the end.
Naturally, this plot detail was "leaked" before release, the movie became a big hit and "saved" the franchise.
Why so many fanboys passionately worship this movie in spite of its plot holes and unanswered questions remains a mystery to me.
The movie really did saved the series. Paramount was ready to throw in the towel on Star Trek after a lackluster and mediocre reviewed (at best) first movie. Another bomb and the Star Trek universe might not have survived. The success of Wrath anchored in 4 more movies for the series and arguably the creation of the Next Generation.
shareWrath of Khan is my favorite Trek film but The Motion Picture is my second favorite.
