He picked him up and dropped him off then Rambo watches and goes back into town. The sheriff is supposed to protect the town. Be honest not knowing who Rambo is would you want him in your town? Me neither. Now don't get me wrong it was way out of line for them to squirt him with a fire hose and hit him but the sheriff did the right thing in the beginning.
When you find yourself with the majority It's time to stop and go with the minority.
Well, he posted 8 years ago on IMDB and deleted his account there. I wouldn't expect an answer.
What law did he break that the Sherrif can force him to leave town.
Vagrancy. Instead, he drove him to the town's border and dropped him off. Back in the 80s, a judge most likely would have backed Teasle up if he arrested him for vagrancy.
Sure, Teasle was a dick but then so was Rambo.

The sheriff knew he wasn't a vagrant. He didn't really know what to make of Rambo. He just didn't like him. Pretty much a case of, I don't like what I don't understand
The sheriff noted Rambo's hunting knife which concerned him. Rambo's tattered appearance also indicated that Rambo did not have a permanent address therefore nobody to vouch for him in terms of a character reference. Of course the sheriff's manner was on the rude side which was a theme central to the movie. There would have been no conflict had the sheriff and Rambo taken a less hard line approach.
A "vagrant" is a person with no established home and no lawful or even visible means of support - a drifter. Even back then, the police could check to see if he had a home address.
I doubt vagrancy laws are still on the books today or enforced if they are (San Francisco courts would be packed with them). But a vagrant can still be charged with loitering, panhandling, violating "camping" laws, etc.
mopery with an intent to gawk. The movie literally PROVES the sheriff was right. Rambo was a loose canon and psycho. Look how he reacted to being told what to do. A peace officer has every right and the authority to take preemptive action against someone like that. Great instincts Sheriff! Thanks for your hard work and experience.
Then when you do this, you assume and you know what happens when you assume?? You make an ASS of U and ME.. Johnny Rambo just wanted something to eat and a place to sleep and they had to push him to the brink and we saw the result
Totally disagree. However, if I'm Teasle - I do keep an eye on Rambo.
When Rambo said (while in the police car with Teasle) -
"You got some place I can eat?"
"Of course, but this is a dull town and we don't have very good restaurants. I doubt you'll enjoy the food, but I'm happy to drop you off at the local diner".
Then drop him off and subtly keep an eye on him - which would have been easy cuz Rambo didn't know a soul in that town. Teasle could have went back to the station, and told his deputies to keep an eye on Rambo. Rambo wouldn't have had a clue. Playing it that way, Rambo would have been gone in two days.
That of course is exactly what Teasle should have done, but didn't. Teasle would have still "protected" his town while allowing Rambo to get something to eat before heading to Portland.
Hey what's up brother - I just added more to the Dufrense/Stephens discussion.
Not much to say on Teasle, he was an idiot. Unnecessarily lost a lot of his men, then wouldn't listen even when Trautmann told him he was completely overmatched.
He just kept going and going and going, losing more and more people, causing more and more property damage. A complete idiot, LOL - don't have much else to say about him. Hey btw, I can't quite remember, does Teasle survive?
Anyway, Dufrense/Stephens is much more interesting cuz it takes some brains to pull that one off.
I always said that on any other day, Teasle might not have been such a dick (maybe if he had another hour of sleep) and let Rambo get something to eat before showing him out of town, but then, we wouldn't have a movie!
Teasle was a d(*&k - and he was stupid as well. Full of himself. Had a little power in his town and thought he was God. No one was going to tell HIM what to do in HIS town.
That's why he wouldn't cut it, even as I said, a full bird colonel tells him tons of men will be lost if he didn't give it up.
Ok, my workout is finished and I'm heading out. NIce chatting with you - best wishes.
Hey check out the other thread we were working on if you please. take care
Teasle had no right to do that. You can’t just assume that someone is going to be a menace and then ban them from a town. A decent person would have seen that Rambo was a wanderer, would have taken him out to lunch, then asked him if he intended to stay in Hope long and if so told him where he could find employment, while at the same time telling him that he doesn’t expect any trouble out of him.
The man was looking for something to eat. Why would you deny him that right?? Imagine in an alternate world, the sheriff wasn't a hard ass dick to him and actually allowed him into town, perhaps to eat, find a place to sleep etc?? 🤔
He (Rambo) was law abiding. And that fat pathetic pos sheriff was just looking for trouble. When the sheriff confronted Rambo the second time, what Rambo should have done was given the sheriff the trouble he was looking for. He could have overpowered and beaten the shit out of the sheriff on the highway. Then he should have gotten rid of his gun, and torn the radio out of his cruiser and disabled the cruiser. Then he could have made his way back into town had something to eat, and been on his mary way. All the while that fat ass pos sheriff could still be injured and nearly helpless or hobbling back into town, and nobody may know a thing until some time had passed.
Sherriff's don't get to pick and chose who can be in their town based solely on how they look. Sure you can keep an eye on any newcomers who look sketchy but Rambo had the right to be there.
