I guess you can say this show was ahead of its time. However, the "Airplane" movies had the same people behind them and they were very successful. I guess movies and TV are two completely different things. I can't remember any shows that are similar. The Howard Stern show "Son Of The Beach" a couple of years ago had some of the same humor.

shareI think there was a show that could have been like "Police Squad," and it was called "Heat Vision and Jack." You can find the pilot episode on YouTube. It stars a then-unknown Jack Black, the voice of Owen Wilson, Ron Silver (playing himself), and Ben Stiller.
It could have been the next PS if only given the chance.
I loved it, it seemed to fit the British sense of humour perfectly!

I doubt it. Police Squad is a special show. It is a shame there were only six epsiodes but it is obviously not uncommon for great and entertaining programming to be canceled before it's time.
Right now there is no talent or examples of this style coming out that is adequate. If we look to Hollywood right now all the so called spoof movies are absolutely atrocious.

Another thread mentioned "THE LAST PRECINCT", which was pretty over-the-top, too, in a different way.
I must share a "Police Squad" story: I was talking and laughing about it and a coworker said, "Do YOU watch 'Police Squad'?" She said that she would kind of listen while doing the dishes and never understood why her husband would howl with laughter--until the fourth or fifth epi when he came into the kitchen and said, "Honey, I'll dry if you'll come in and watch this show with me." Then she understood and it became her favorite!

I highly doubt it. I rarely turn on the tube anymore because when I do, I'm severely disappointed.
