Why is this never on TV?

This came out when I was a kid ...but I've honestly barely heard about it the past 30 years.

I've seen many, many classics that came out around then (and before I was born) on regular TV and cable multiple times. I literally cannot remember ever seeing a commercial or seeing it on TV guide channel or just coming across it while flipping.

Why do you suppose that is?

"Bltch, what you DON'T know about me -- I can just about squeeze into the Grand xxxxing Canyon!"

It's on TCM now, and they show it fairly often--maybe every other year?--since they celebrate the Oscars every year.

Seems like I remember seeing this years ago, maybe on AMC, before TCM existed, and to shorten the movie and make room for commercials, they cut out the documentary parts, the witnesses. I'm sure Beatty hated that and then refused to give permission for it to be edited for broadcast.

It's a 3 hour movie about a communist who dies. That being said, it's on tcm right now
