Please would fans explain why they enjoyed this movie

The plots a great premises... a testosterone driven anti-hero that's has to overcome insurmountable odds in a dystopian future where he has to beat "the man" at his own game and not take any crap along the way. All the characters are awesome... Snake, Hauk, The Duke, Brain, the sleazy President, the Dukes evil little helper... They're were all played by good actors that nailed their roles. The dialog is simple, straight forward and without any goofy 80's cliche. Even though the soundtrack is dated with the heavy synthesizers it still works to build drama. I saw this in the theater when I was 18 and the crowd loved it and literally applauded at the end of the movie. Maybe it's a generational thing... The difference between kids that grew up on mini-bikes and playing rough outdoors and kids that grew up playing video games inside all day.
