Dragonslayer: BEST Dragon movie ever.

Dragonslayer is the best dragon movie ever made. Easily. No competition.

I would put Reign of Fire at a distant second. I would put 7th Voyage of Sinbad and Sleeping Beauty up there, but come on, their dragons were only shown for like 5 minutes.

Not a fan of Willow or Dragon Heart.

Anything else out there? Pete's Dragon? Shrek? heh heh . .

Here's hoping the new Hobbit film will become my NEW favorite dragon movie.

I last saw this movie in the 80s and it has stayed with me since.

Today I came across a VHS tape in a thrift store for a buck and couldn't wait to watch it.

Sometimes favorite movies from old - when reviewed - turn out to be dated and do not live up to recollection. But, I was so pleased to see that this film held its own (Wow, almost 30 years later!).

I suspect modern audiences may be far less impressed - expecting better / flashier production qualities; maybe a recognizable cast and dialogue with a more contemporary feel and music score.

But, for its time the special effects are pretty darn good. And any shortfalls are made up for in great storytelling.

I agree - best dragon movie!

Agreed. The movie does have some flaws but still, VP looks fantastic even for today standards.

Jake, My Jake!

Agreed. Vermithrax is a mean, spiteful, terrifying beast. Its roar is more fearsome than most others (and DEFINITELY more fearsome than Smaug in the second Hobbit film...what a cheesy ass dragon...not scary at all).

It was a good episode movie

Whole-heartedly agree!

Of all the live-action dragon films ever made, Dragonslayer 's Vermithrax stands alone at the top as being the all-time best designed and best-realised dragon ever put on film.

In the realm of animated dragons (including CGI), I would have to say that, although brief and under-used, Maleficent from the original 1958 Sleeping Beauty rates as the best animated dragon ever. I would love to see a darker, more extended take on that whole scene, minus the fairies and kid-friendly trappings.
