50 cents for a coke is a lot?
The guy was complaining that a bottle of coca-cola cost 50 cents which was a lot for him. How much was it supposed to be? 40 cents?

shareYou could get a coke for 25 cents when I was a kid in the late 70s.
shareA quarter is normal for the time. Some places would be 15 cents for an 8oz which they don't really sell any more. A can of Coke was still a quarter when I was in college in the 90's. It went up to 50 cents about '95ish.
A full size candy bar was 25 cents in the 80's. By '90 it went up to 45 cents. Now-and-later's were 15 cents in the 80's for one small package. Heck, there was still a place that sold penny candy in about '84 near my place.
Things get more expensive. In general, food is cheaper in constant dollars. 50 cents in 1980 is $1.59 in constant dollars. That coke is a 12 oz so that's way over priced for now. Current cost for a 12 oz is 69 cents.
It's equivalent to $1.62 today so yeah I'd say that's overpriced.
shareI aint paying no $5.00 for a gallon of gas. HAHA you ain't getting no gas!
share25 cents in 1979 when the movie was filmed.
