Overrated Cult Movie
This movie definitely dd not hold up. A 7.7 on here is very ludacris!
shareI was a teenager when this movie came out, but hadn't seen it until last night. After watching Michael Beck's acting ability in Xanadu, I wasn't expecting much. The movie isn't quite the cheese fest that I expected. It was pretty cheesy at times, though. At the beginning of the movie, when all of the gangs are on the move in their colorful, matching outfits, I anticipated a big song and dance number. These gangs didn't seem so tough to me. At about three minutes into the movie, they actually showed a gang of mimes! Seriously?! That must be one tough group. The movie was a good escape from reality, though, and I had few laughs.
shareIt's the classic dynamic of what does a movie like now versus how it came across in the context of the time it was released. In it's own way, The Warriors was groundbreaking stuff to an extent.
Sorta like Animal House in its own realm.
Very overrated. I do think it's a cult hit but the acting is horrible and I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a serious drama or a futuristic allegory. The roller and baseball gangs were interesting but made no sense in the story. The pacing was very slow as well. Compared to Escape from NY for example its way overrated.
sharei just wish gangs were like that in real life. i'd have nothing to worry about with their slow, awkward, oblivious fighting styles :)
it was fun though
Escape from NY is the slow overrated one.
The roller and baseball gangs made no sense? What?
This movie took place in a heightened reality. It was basically humming along on a comic book sensibility. It wasn't supposed to reflect real gang issues or anything. It's a survival-thriller with a comic book-rock n' roll vibe. That's all. The acting isn't horrible, it's spot on. It's supposed to be full of ridiculous melodrama and scenery chewing. It's not supposed to be a serious drama OR a futuristic allegory. It's just a slick piece of action fluff. Nothing else. And are you kidding me? Slow pacing? From the moment Cyrus gets shot, the movie goes non-stop. Nobody even has a chance to rest in this movie. They're running all night trying to get back to CI.
Trying to gret back to CI without any CGI.

Maybe it is a movie of its time only but I loved this when I was younger and really enjoyed it as escapism fun. I think that I must have nearly worn my VHS tape out the amount of times I watched it. These days I struggle too watch any movies made now twice let alone any more times than that. These days though there is just so much easy excess too films and they are all just throw away titles.
To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock
You are the one who it ludicrous (learn to spell, you actually named the rapper and not the actual word) with that comment. The Warriors is awesome, and show old school NYC the way it should be shown, and you will never see the city like that again because it has become gentrified.
Always look for the positive in every situation.
I don't care what anyone says. I saw this movie when I was 15 when it came out in the theater's and I still LOVE it!! As a matter if fact I just watched it again!!

I'm finding that the negative opinions on this thread come from people unable to appreciate a film for what it's aiming, or worse, really have no clue WHAT the movie was aiming for. I'll give you a hint: this isn't a french new wave film.
"The Warriors" was meant to be a comic book style movie, all about fight scenes and snappy dialogue, and on that ground, the movie works very well. Anyone who says the writing was terrible don't know what they're talking about. Or maybe they did expect this to be a 70's equivalent of Boyz in the Hood, in which case they're an idiot.
"It's just you and me now, sport"-Manhunter
