Subtitles Vs. English Dub?
What's the best (most enjoyable way) to watch this movie, with the subtitles or the English Dub?
Are there any Miyazaki movies that have really bad dubs?

Well there have been 2 dubs for this film and of course the original Japanese.
You might want to stay clear of the first dub. Lupin is called Wolf due to Copyright reasons at the time and its full of stupid mistakes like Inspector Zenigata is called Inspector Keibulua Zenigata (Keibulua means Inspector) so he is called Inspector Inspector Zenigata.
The 2nd Dub is excellent, the VA of Lupin is the guy that does the voice for Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. The stupid mistakes have been corrected and all the names are pronounced properly.
The Japanese language is the best way to watch Lupin, the voice cast has been in every single episode/movie/tv special (apart from Fuma and the late Yasuao Yamada who died 10 years ago and has been replaced).
I reccommend the Japanese but if you can't stand subtitles, then the second dub is the way to go. The 2nd dub is on the Manga Entertainment DVD along with the Japanese. The first dub is available on the Japanese R2 DVD or on video.
I don't know the history of the dubs that MIBlackburn it talking about, but there was a very good dub released. unfortunately they couldn't put that version of the dub on the new dvd, it was due to some technical mumbo jumo or copyright stuff. but essentially I believe that it is the best dub for any japanime ever created, the voices suit the characters perfectly.
in the end i think its better to watch the subtitles especially considering that dub is very hard to find these days. but its certianly fun to hear that dub if u can get your hands on it.
The dub you are going on about is the one Streamline Pictures did in the early 90's, I have to find a copy of this dub to watch because I haven't heard it in a while. If you want the first dub the Japanese Region 2 DVD has it on.
shareBy the standards of dubbing (which are usually pretty low), the English dub for the Manga DVD of CASTLE CAGLIOSTRO is not bad. However, it does add a few lines not in the original Japanese soundtrack.

Hmm, I enjoyed that first dub (Streamline) very much. I don't recall Inspector Zenigata being called Keibulua at any point, just "Inspector Zenigata". On borrowing the 2nd dub (Manga Entertainment) version, I was immediately put off by the lack of charm that it went about with (particularly with the swearing).
shareThis. The Streamline dub is as retro as the movie itself, and almost as collectible. Manga Entertainment's rendition was dull, and bad language made it inappropriate as the slightly edgy family feature Streamline produced in 1980... Without adding anything worthwhile to it .
