All oscar movies should be forgotten

Who cares about stupid awards???

This is cinema we're grading here!!

Films made to win oscars like this should not be watched just cause they got a dutty bit of metal given by some idiots, in fact they should be burnt and forgotten, or at least ignored!!!

I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS MADNESS!!!!

sure the movie is ok, but it's so obviously out for awards.

WHERE'S THE HEART AND SOUL??

Your rants and raves would really induce yourself an Academy Award nominee...

The first post makes no sense. Talk about needless generalization. The films that won the award were made, released, liked, nominated and then voted by some people. They weren't MADE with the sole purpose to win the Oscar.

According to the OP film's like Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, The Godfather, On the Waterfront, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Schindler's List, Braveheart and the Lord of the Rings should be forgotten. Yeah...right.

reply

If a film wins an Academy Award, it has won it because a number of skilled actors/directors/editors/and other well knowledged technical individuals have voted for it.

For the cinema audience who have no interest in acting/directing/script et al, you have the MTV Movie awards were trogladites can whoop and cheer for their favourite explosion on screen, or two non-talented actors sharing a kiss!

Oscar talk ruins serious discussion about movies and it is the public to blame moreso than the Academy.

On the KvsK board, a lot of the hate revolves around this being named Best Picture over Apocolypse Now. What the HELL does that have to do with the picture. That they came out in the same year should not make them "competitors."

Much like politics, people look for a sporting appeal to cinema. It's moronic.

reply

But keep in mind that human beings love competition. It explains not only the endurance of the Oscars, but why pro sports are so popular.

Troll makes vitriolic, unsubstantiated post that deals less in fact than it does in bluster, then fails to reply to any other discussion on the thread he has created.

However, I must say, if you don't care about awards, why bring them up in the first place?

It's hilarious how people say this movie was made for Oscars when, if I recall correctly, this was actually the number 1 box office movie in 1979 and one of the higheste until that point.

For film buffs like me, the Oscars are a great way to discover classic films. I remember watching A PLACE IN THE SUN because of George Stevens directing Oscar, which began a search for all Montgomery Cliff films.

On the other hand, some Best Picture winners leave me cold. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80DAYS, GIGI, CHARIOTS OF FIRE, to name a few.

K v K however was excellent and a deserving winner.
