All oscar movies should be forgotten

Who cares about stupid awards???

This is cinema we're grading here!!

Films made to win oscars like this should not be watched just cause they got a dutty bit of metal given by some idiots, in fact they should be burnt and forgotten, or at least ignored!!!

I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS MADNESS!!!!

sure the movie is ok, but it's so obviously out for awards.

WHERE'S THE HEART AND SOUL??

reply

The heart and soul were on full display in this film. I saw it in the theater in 1979 and the audience reaction was palable.

Some movies are worth watching over and over and over. If you don't like a movie that won tons of awards, or someone had "recommended highly," find one you do like. Don't take it personal. Just because someone likes something doesn't mean you will feel the same way. American Beauty-everyone loved it, recommended it, talked about it, it won a boatload of awards. But it left me cold and wondering what all the hype was about.
Netflix recommends these movies to me, I try them and eah-I like them but they're nothing to watch over and over and over and over.

i completely agree.
take magnolia for example. excellent movie, but you can obviously tell anderson made it especially for the oscars, because at the oscars he got mad when he lost.

its a pity when movies are made for such shallow reasons

Magnolia wasn't even nominated for Best Director, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. The Oscars would NEVER name a film like Magnolia Best Picture, it's far too intelligent and realistic.

reply

Magnolia is genius. It inspired me to go to film school. PTA is a god!

What does "out for awards" mean ??

I do agree that the merits of a film should not be based on how many awards its wins.

But not liking a movie because it won some awards makes no sense.

I agree that awards are not enough reason too see a movie, so, should they be a reason not to see one?

Movies are either good or bad....this one happens to be good with ot without awards.

reply

I agree also that awards are not a reason to see a film. The fact that "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire won the Oscar for Best Song in 2009 says it all. It got best song so that the film could win 8 awards. A silly reason IMO cos it's an awful song.

Anyway awards are one thing and good films are another. Doesn't necessarily mean that the awards have always been wrong in that many great films have won oscars etc. but many have not.

In this case, I think Kramer vs Kramer is an excellent film. But 5 oscars might be too much. Having said that, I'd easily have it in my top 250 films.

"Hi Lloyd. A little slow tonight, isn't it?"

reply

Is winning 8 oscars disproportionally better than winnign 7? is 8 the magic oscar number? Just curious

reply

Oh my, what a laughable and childish statement. "I will not watch any film that won an Oscar!" "This film was made just to win awards!" I'm not sure if time has been as kind to "Kramer vs. Kramer," as opposed to say, I don't know "Apocalypse Now" or "Raging Bull." This was, however, one of the first major Hollywood films to deal with what was the growing cultural phenomenon of divorce, something far more commonplace today. There are also shades of women's liberation as Meryl Streep's character is unhappy with the life of a housewife, leaving Hoffman's cramped apartment nest to attempt to forge her own individual identity. This was also a growing phenomenon in the late 1970s.

This is a gentle film, quiet, subtle with terrific emotional truth. It was, and still is, a respectable work detailing human lives suffering from conflicts of the modern world of 1979. Streep's performance is a marvel, not to mention the wonderful chemistry of Hoffman and Henry. This movie took on some cultural issues of the time that today seem passe, but the issues of the corporate world Hoffman deals with are still relevant 31 years later.

As for refusing to watch any Best Picture Oscar winner, are you truly sure you would rather skip "Casablanca," "All About Eve," "On the Waterfront," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Midnight Cowboy," "The Godfather," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "The Deer Hunter," "Platoon," "Silence of the Lambs," "Unforgiven," "Shakespeare in Love" and "No Country for Old Men?" And that's just worthy films that won Best Picture.....What about Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinemtography and Best Foreign Film? Don't sell yourself short. You'll miss out on some truly great films.

reply

your truly an idiot. out for awards? what the *beep* are u talking about. SO what are you saying all movies should just be made to suck a$$? what do you like? snakes on a plane?

No need to be angry. I think most of us agree with you. Why would anyone fault a film for winning an award? What are they suppose to do, reject the award as not to offend some jackasses out there? I think not.

reply

This movie was amazing. I saw this movie without knowing that it did so well at the Oscars. After seeing how good it was I looked it up to see if it had been nominated for anything and it won a bunch of Oscars. I think Kramer vs. Kramer completely deserves it's recognition.

reply

i think it's a great film, but can't believe it won over Apocalypse Now.
