'we need to score a lid?

in all of their movies they say "we need to score a lid" when they are looking for weed. does anyone know exactly how much that is? is it a nick, a dime, a quarter,a half,or an Oz. does anyone know or is old hippy term that died with the hippies.

I thought lid was just a term for any amount of bud.

I know what you're thinkin'... "Here comes Old Gregg, he's a scaly man-fish!"

Just to put my 2 cents in.

I think it's really interesting how every drug market develops its own system of weights and measures.

Where I'm at, in Nebraska, it goes like this:

Nickel - normally $5, ~500 mg of grass. (weighs as much as an actual nickel)
Dime - normally $10, ~1 g of grass
(even the small bags are sold by weight)

Eighths and quarters are usually around $25/$50, sometimes $30/$60 or $30/$50 if the dealer wants to sell a lot of quarters.

Bear in mind that this is just for average pot. Every once in awhile some great stuff shows up and it's a bit more spendy.

Our Canadian friend is correct. I was way deep in NYC when this movie came out and a lid was three-quarters. My lawn, etc.

A lid at the time in Texas was close to an ounce of weed, yes they were called for finger bags, and they cost 10 dollars (1975)..It was everywhere..If you payed 15, you got really good *beep* not know how it was elsewhere, but here on the Gulf Coast it was that way...You could get a pound for 100 dollars, and a "Matchbox" for $2.50.....

everyone replying in modern terms is missing the point - at the time of these movies a lid was either the coffee can lid method, or many times was measured with shot glasses - a lid was 4 or 5 shots, depending on who you copped from and ran 15 to 25 bucks depending on quality - a nickle was one shot, 5 bucks usually - a weighed ounce was considered better because it was more consistent

The stoner kids in my high school would say something like, "I'm going out after school to get a nickel bag. Gimme two dollars and I'll split it with you."

consider the time frame - everyone is posting prices like in 2006 - in the movie timeframe a lid was variable - someone pointed out the coffee can lid, we used shot glasses in the 70s - a good lid was 5 shot glasses and cost between 15 and 25 bucks, some lids were only 4 shots - cost depended a lot on quality as well and where it was from - if you got a weighed ounce, that was sort of cooler because it was a definite quantity and usually cost a bit more, around 25 bucks
