'we need to score a lid?

in all of their movies they say "we need to score a lid" when they are looking for weed. does anyone know exactly how much that is? is it a nick, a dime, a quarter,a half,or an Oz. does anyone know or is old hippy term that died with the hippies.

reply

"Contrary to popular belief a Lid is not an ounce of weed. The coffee cans had a key like a sardine can and the Lid would be wound off the can. The Lid used to measure usually contained about 4 fingers of pot. People at that time didn't have a triple scale to weight pot."

reply

Everyone mellow out, man. Who the hell gets in arguments about grass? Smoke and enjoy, just don't get caught.

reply

yep,you hit it right on the nose man

dude what that kid said is bull *beep* a lid is also considered a dub, which weighs between 1.7-2.3 grams in my state (washington) it also costs 20$ and i dont know what the *beep* youre talking about nik? what the *beep* is that gay term? if ur referring to a five sack, the correct term is just bowl

reply

dude who cares? everyone has there own lingo. to me, yours is bull. your a moron.

reply

no doubt. people who get arrogant about weed terms are either smoking waaaay too much or not enough. lofl.

Damn, you getting ripped off i guess the dudes suck there. We dont like the term dealer, its too trashy sounding. A nickel or "nick, nik" is a gram, and $5. Its pretty much half a dime, a dime is 10 bucks. A five sack lol, hey man why do you wanna pay $5 for one lousy bowl? A dub here weighs 4 or 5 grams, and 20 bucks. But mainly people buy by the quarter, 25 bucks, 7 grams. It makes it easy how the coin terms relate to how much the price is. Oh and a quarter is a quarer Oz by the way.

10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you're going home.-TooL

reply

That is some crazy cheap buds. Here's in LA (where pot is pretty much legal) it's like $20-30 for a G banger, $50-100 for an eighth and so on.

But they would be smoking swag in this movie not chronic, they talk about seeds. We don't do that anymore. Swag or TJ kush as some call it is like $3 a gram. Why you would even wanna smoke it is beyond me.

They smoke sooooo much weed in this movie but really it all looks really bad. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.

reply

more or less, to my knowledge, a lid is half an ounce (as I don't go by grams)

reply

back in the 70's, when this film came out, a lid was an ounce. at least that is what it meant in california, where this film takes place.

reply

thank you for a sane answer.. i always wondered about it.

reply

In the mid-1970s when I was a teenager, a lid meant an ounce, but it was more of a visual ounce because very, very few people had scales of any kind in their homes that would measure an ounce. So pretty much no one could check to see if what they bought weighed an ounce. You'd just have to look at it. I suppose the dealers (or "pushers" as society called them, LOL) had scales, or at least some of them did. I only saw scales one or two times before I got into college, where they were more common but still scarce compared to today.

I remember us all wondering the answer to the question "How many joints are in a lid?"

reply

On Big Bambu the trivia sketch says a lid is two joints. Just FYI thats what it was to them.

reply

Did you see the size of the rolling paper in your Big Bambu? That's a lot of pot if you're gonna roll up a pair. Funny movie.

reply

Yeah, and Chong tells the host "I roll big joints." According to what I've been told (This is for 1970s Ontario), a lid was 15 joints.

reply

thats a lot of joints.

reply

in 1978, in the midwest, a lid was an OZ. Measured by the width of fingers...3 finger bag, 4 finger bag, etc. Nobody bought "nics" or dimes...you would be laughed out of the room.

"Lid" B-u-u-a-a-h-h! Outside C&C movies, I haven't heard that term since Nixon was reelected. Nobody ever said why it was called that.

In Hawaii in 1967, it was a baggie stuffed as full as it could get and still close reliably, for $10. (Ziploc hadn't been invented yet.) A week's worth, depending how many people came over and didn't bring any with them. (A week. I me, a d-d-d a day. A weekday.)

By the early 70s, the government had achieved its goal of making it more scarce and prices started doubling periodically. Nobody cared 'exactly' how much was in the bag when it cost $10, but by the time it passed $30 people started weighing it, if for no other reason than avoiding arguments over whether it was short or not.

reply

A nickel used to be pretty common in NYC (like Washington Square Park) or in some hoods.
So it's usually not that great of herb.
As far as a lid goes not really sure the right answer.

Just think: If every alcoholic switched to weed there would be no bar fights, way fewer rapes, less need for police, and insurance would probably be waaaay cheaper.

Plus we'd all be helping Dominos in it's quest for global domination!

Seriously, though, glad I found this info, even though there appears to be no clear definition.

And as someone else said waaay up the board, y'all need to chill out and smoke either some more or some less. This sh!t is supposed to mellow you out and be enjoyable, not the basis for slandering and hassle.
Smoke and enjoy!!!

A lid in Fort Worth, TX. in the late 60s was a baggie full.

reply

WOW! $40 for an eigth of dank? Im in IN and get the dankiest stuff for $25 an eigth. I didnt realize how cheap it was. It sounds like a lot of you guys pay way more than me. And I got some pretty tight merchandise. Ya'll save your money and come party with me in the Midwest.

In louisiana in the 80's a lid was supposed to be a skoal or copenhagen container full of weed. Usually about an eighth, usually about $15-25. Always ragweed. Not sure if that was authentic or if some stoner kids just extrapolated it from the C&C movies.
Out here in Oakland Ca, prices are just wrong. sometimes I can get an eighth for $35, but usually pay $45-60. Of course the $60 stuff will make chicks freak out and grown men cry.
man I need to score some weed.

reply

Not gonna read all replies but

A lid really is when you fill a baggy all the way up and can barley close the lid. This went for $20 in the 80s and if you could close the baggys lid you were ripped off. Country homegrown not mex *beep* would be about an oz per lid roughly. You could get half a pound of mex pressed *beep* in a bag like that these days but thats be $600 or more.
